April is , which gives communities and families the opportunity to work together to prevent child abuse and neglect.

The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) defines child abuse as (at minimum):
Any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, s*xual abuse or exploitation; or an act or failure to act, which presents an imminent risk of serious harm.

The Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015 recently added the requirement to include s*x trafficking victims in the definition of child abuse and neglect (Src: 2019 Child Maltreatment Report). As of a few years ago, s*x trafficking was added as a maltreatment type included in reports to the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS).
