Meet the artist! 🫶🏻☀️🌀
About me: I’m Maggie May, the sole owner and creator behind Maybug Crochet. I’m a 26-year-old mental health counselor from Memphis, TN. Some of my passions include taking care of my guinea pigs, connecting with people, reading, TV and movies, fire and flow performance art, dancing, music, psychology, and food! ✨🎪🎹📚🌮💃🏼
My creative journey: I’ve always been attracted to learning patterns. When I was a young kid I loved tying my own shoes and my brother’s neckties, braiding anything I could get my hands on, sewing with my grandma, and memorizing fancy napkin folds. At this stage of life, I didn’t think of myself as an “artist,” because I liked rules and was a structured, organized thinker. As I tried sports like gymnastics, cheer, and dance, I began to break out of that one dimensional self-image by combining my strength for sequencing with artistry. Later I found hula hooping and fire flow arts which opened up a whole new realm of creative possibilities. In 2016 I decided to pick up crochet because it was another activity that seemed to perfectly blend repetition and self expression. It quickly became a therapeutic tool for me, and I’ve been expanding my skill set ever since. I now know that, like nature, I can possess capabilities in math, beauty, and art simultaneously. 🪢🧶🧵🪡🧠
The shop: My small business is filled with handmade clothing, bags, jewelry, keychains, wall decor, and other accessories/misc. items! Because yarn is such a playful medium, my hope is that my customers feel connected to their inner child when they wear something silly like a pair of pizza earrings or a gummy bear choker. I hope you find something you love and wear/use it with youthful joy! Thank you for supporting!🐞🪴🌸🍄
