“”A Beautiful Decision—

My 9-year-old son and I had been walking around the craft store for 30 minutes while he carefully decided how he would spend his hard-earned $20. For him, this was a tough decision, so I gave him the space and time to think it through. After much thought and helping him weigh the options, he decided on a new sketchpad, some brush markers, and a carrying case. He proudly paid the cashier and felt confident in the choice he made. Since then, he has filled his book with beautiful artwork and thanked me countless times for helping him make such a good decision.

Our days are filled with decisions influenced by many factors. Our choices can be driven by temptations such as money, success, selfishness, or lust. It can be easy to listen to the wrong voice. David called upon God to be his guide. He asked God to lead him down the right path.

It's important to recognize what drives us in our de-cision-making. Are we relying on selfish desires, or are we seeking God's will and guidance? By seeking God and His Word, we can make wise choices. Like my son, we can choose wisely then look at the masterpieces God creates with His faithfulness in our lives. That's beautiful.

Father, guide me today as I make tough decisions. Thank You for always being faithful.””

“”Trust God’s Ways—

I've spent quite some time in my personal walk with God complaining about life's circumstances. With things hitting me from all sides, most of my prayers are for God to fix something, act quicker, or provide something for me and my family. I am thankful for the blessings of God, and I pray general prayers of thanksgiving. I do pray for others and their needs, but the extent of my prayer life has been asking God to make things better for me personally. I've even justified these prayers by comparing them to the prayers of the psalmists, as many of their writing were complaints for God to rescue, protect, and avenge them from enemies. But today's passage from Job challenged this ongoing attitude that I've justified. It reminded me that my opinions about God's plans don't really matter. When I constantly complain about my circumstances, I put myself in the position that | think I know better than God does.

Job's story is wildly famous. He is the object of a challenge Satan offered to God that focused on Job's ability to remain faithful in the face of pain and loss. With Job's world turned upside down, his three friends came to comfort him and to offer advice on why these things had happened to him. But Job remained confused as to the "why?" of his predicament. In Chapter 38, God finally spoke. He asked Job to stand up and face Him like a man. One translation uses the words "brace yourself." For the next several chapters, God reminded Job of Who was in charge. When Job stopped long enough to hear from God and see His hand at work in the world, he was humbled and rightfully repented and gave God the praise He was due. Humbly spending time reflecting on God's goodness and power always puts things in perspective for us in times of difficulty.

God, help me to trust Your ways and let You lead me in Your purposes.””

“”Reminders—

If you were to walk into my office, you would see a colorful array of notes stuck to various places on my desk and computer screen. These notes serve as reminders of tasks I need to complete or what to do in certain situations I may encounter during the day. My work day runs smoothly because my reminders help keep me on track.

We may encounter situations or problems where the answer is unclear. We may suffer disappointment, hurt, anger, or stress. Scripture gives direction to handle everyday struggles. When we spend time in and delight in God's Word, our mind creates notes to help us get through those moments. Rather than relying on social media or bad advice from others, the Bible is our source of wisdom.

By reading God's Word and thinking about it throughout our day, we are nourished and able to call upon God's reminders. When we encounter times of struggle, we remind ourselves about God's promises, grace, and love.

Just as I rely on my pink, blue, and green notes stuck to my desk for my work tasks, we can rely on God's reminders to help keep us on track during each moment in our day.

Father, thank You for reminding me that I am not alone. Continue to remind me of Your promises.””

“”The Goal Is Spiritual Formation, Not Explanation—

In the face of tragedy in the days in which we live, our natural human instinct is to ask, "Why?" Why did this happen? Why didn't God prevent this from happening?" We seek explanations, often assigning blame to God or demanding answers from Him. But the Christian walk invites us to shift our focus from explanation to formation. Jesus, both sovereign and divine, operates beyond the bounds of human logic. Today's Scripture passage is one of my personal favorites. Faced with this temptation of discovering the cause behind the effect, the disciples had no interest in helping the man at all but were more interested in discussing how it came to be. When His disciples asked who sinned to cause the man's blindness, Jesus redirected them by responding with today's focal verse. Rather than seeing suffering as punishment, Jesus saw it as an opportunity for God's work to be revealed. Birth defects were thought to be from specific sinful behavior of the parents. Yet they are simply the result from our fallen world.

Instead of dissecting suffering, which we are prone to do, we are called to respond with mercy, love, and action. When we encounter pain, we should not ask, "Who is to blame?" but rather, "What can God teach me through this?" Ultimately, the point of life is not to understand every hardship, but to be formed through them. Faith means trusting God's sovereignty even when we don't understand it. When we stop demanding answers and start trusting, we open ourselves to transformation - into maturity, into Christlikeness, into deeper faith. So instead of asking "Why?" let us ask, "What can God do through this?" And in doing so, move from confusion to formation, from despair to hope, and from immaturity to maturity.

Lord, when I don't understand why, help me trust You in what You are forming in me.””

“”Refocusing on Jesus—

Today's passage urges us to stay connected to Jesus. The image of Him as the vine and believers as the branches helps us understand that apart from Him, we can do nothing. It is possible to receive His salvation yet still act out of the flesh, separated from His protection, strength, and power. All believers find their focus wandering at times, but some have strayed so far that it's hard to see their way back.

If you discover your heart is loyal to something besides Christ, it's vital to acknowledge that this has happened. Repent of whichever attitudes and activities are drawing you away, and choose to focus on Him instead.

Once the distraction is gone, refocus on Jesus by reading the Word, praying, learning from biblical messages, and spending time with godly friends who will encourage you. After living outside of God's best for a while, it can be hard to discipline yourself to function as the Lord desires. But remember that those who abide in God will bear much fruit (John 15:5).

Hebrews 12:1 urges us to "lay aside every encumbrance" so we can run with endurance the race set before us. Following His plan in His strength is the way to peace, joy, and contentment in life.

Father, thank You for being the Vine in my life, through You I’m given strength and joy and peace and protection for which I’m eternally grateful.

“”The House Of God—

Years ago, my parents built a beautiful home in our neigh-borhood. When people would come visit them, one of the first questions they would ask would be, "What builder did you use?" Visitors would complement the home, but they wanted the name of the person who constructed it, because that person deserved credit for a job well done.

As part of God's house, we must remember our build-er. The recipients of the Hebrews' epistle were reminded that though Moses was a faithful servant, Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is the maker of God's house, and like Moses, we as believers serve inside the house. Those within whom Christ dwells live with confidence and joy.

Today's verse reminds us to rejoice in the hope Jesus gives and stay confident in our Christian walk. Remain confident when the world tries to argue against us, and remain joyful in the hope that is in Jesus, no matter what.

When we live in this way, others will ask about our builder. We can then share about our wonderful Maker, because He is the One who matters most.

Father, thank You for welcoming me into Your house. Help me live in a way that draws others to You.””

“”You Are A Declaration Of God’s Kingdom—

It was one of the darkest moments in Israel's history. Still in the wilderness, surrounded by God's miraculous provision in the form of manna and water-giving rocks, men gave in to their lusts and were seduced by Moabite women. They then worshiped false gods and allowed their urges to bring them to the depths of debauchery (see Num. 25:1-3

God's plan was to make a people unlike all the other nations — a people who would worship Him and follow His good ways. But before God could even give them the Promised Land, the people of Israel turned their backs on Him. Israel continued on, an imperfect people stumbling after a perfect God.

Years later, a family from Israel moved to Moab to escape a famine. While there, the two sons of the family married Moabite women. It would appear that history was going to repeat itself. Instead, these two young men died, and so did their father.
A widow named Naomi was left with her two daughters-in-law, and so she decided to return to Israel. But when she set her daughters-in-law free to return home and find new husbands, one of them — Ruth - surprised her. In a reversal of what happened in the wilderness, Ruth had been "seduced" by the goodness of Naomi and her God, and she chose to switch all of her allegiances to Naomi, her people, and the Lord. She walked out of the darkness and into the light. It seems that Naomi and her family had shown Ruth what God is like, and Ruth wanted more. You and I have the same opportunities as we go about our everyday lives. We can show people a glimpse of the kingdom with every interaction, drawing them closer to Jesus. Like Naomi, we can be walking, talking billboards for the kingdom of light if only we will see the opportunities God has given us.

Lord, thank You for placing me where You have. Give me opportunities to share Your goodness with the people around me.””

“”God’s Power Never Fails—

With the flip of a switch our power was gone. We had just returned home from worship and Bible study on a Sunday afternoon, and my wife and I were talking in our kitchen. I was in the process of heating a cup of coffee in the microwave when suddenly I heard a "pop" and the oven's heating cycle stopped. I quickly checked and saw that the microwave's lights and clock were dark. Have you ever had the experience of taking power for granted and then realizing the disappointment of finding it was gone? It can certainly initiate feelings of loss or even helplessness.

Facing challenges — whether with work, school, family, loved ones, neighbors, or any number of the difficulties we encounter-and learning to rely on the power of God to help us with them is an important part of the Christian life. How can we learn to draw on the never-ceasing power of God? Prayer is one of the greatest gifts God has given to us so that we may call on Him to strengthen us with His power. In today's chapter in the book of Ephesians, the Bible offers us a prayer for spiritual power. Yes, there will be times in our lives when we feel unprepared — even powerless. However, in every situation we can rely on the power of God, "who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us" (Eph. 3:20). Prayer is a key to connect us to the power of God. The apostle Paul wrote to encourage all believers that they were reconciled to God by the blood of Christ, and through Him had access to the Father by one Spirit. As the familiar hymn so beautifully reminds us, the precious blood of the Lamb."

Lord, please bless me through Your power and Spirit to be strengthened by prayer.

“”Rejoice Even When Life Hurts—

A few years ago, everything in my life seemed to unravel at once. A major work project collapsed, a close family member was in poor health, and unexpected expenses hit all at once. I remember sitting at our kitchen table, eyes glazed over, staring at numbers on a notepad that didn't add up. Joy was the last thing on my mind. I didn't feel like singing; I felt like quitting. Then I came across Habakkuk 3. The prophet listed one devastation after another: no figs, no grapes, no sheep, no cattle. In an agrarian society, that meant disaster —the loss of income, security, and hope. But at the end of listing all that ruin, Habakkuk wrote something radical: the words of today's focal verse. (“yet I will celebrate in the Lord; I will rejoice in the God of my salvation!”
‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭3‬:‭18) That word — yet-was a turning point. It's the difference between despair and trust. Habakkuk wasn't rejoicing because things were going well. He was rejoicing because he trusted that God was still worthy, still faithful, and still present.

As men, we typically feel the pressure to fix everything and to hold it all together in the life of our family. Then, when life spins out of control, we question our purpose and sometimes even God's presence. But faith is not pretending everything is fine. It's choosing to rejoice anyway, even in the middle of the mess, because God hasn't changed. That's not denial — that's worship! Rejoicing when life hurts doesn't mean we ignore the pain. It means we anchor our joy in something much deeper than our circumstances. Even if the breakthrough doesn't come and even if the harvest doesn't arrive, we can still declare: "The Lord my Lord is my strength." That kind of worship changes us from the inside out.

God, when my life feels barren and broken, help me to still rejoice in You because of the goodness You never stop showing me.””

“”Small Acts Make A Big Difference—

As I reconnected with a former co-worker, she recounted the time I loaned her my car for the weekend so she could travel out of town. My response: "I did what?" My wife remembered the occasion, but I did not. This was not a sign of dementia, but it was something easy for me to forget because loaning a car that would've sat in the driveway all weekend was not a big deal. I've been on the other side of this too. In the past, l've thanked individuals who stepped in with an act of kindness or a word of encouragement. When I thanked them, they practically blew it off. But they didn't realize what they had done by their simple act of kindness.

The Israelites had hardly left their slave quarters in Egypt when they were attacked.
The Amalekite army attacked a nation that knew a lot about masonny and building projects, but nothing about warfare. However, the Isralites were God's people, and all they needed was some encouragement — a reminder that God was with them. So Moses stood where the whole army could see him and raised his staff in the air. The staff Moses held had been repeatedly used as God's tool to remind the Israelites of His presence and power. Moses held up the staff to show the people his confidence was in God, but Moses was just a man and his arms got tired. That's when Aaron and Hur stepped up. They did nothing more than hold up Moses's hands. With Moses sitting on rock, it was not a difficult task for Aaron and Hur to support his arms, but what a difference it made! Their support was invaluable. As followers of Christ, we are to support one another. For example, we can help hold up the arms of our pastors and others who lead us week in and week out. Be an Aaron and a Hur to someone. Find a way to come alongside them and simply hold up their arms. You will make a far bigger difference than you think.

God, show me how I can serve You today by serving someone else.””
