Silence is a poem I wrote in 2018; one of the things I love most about what I do is I get to listen to Veterans, and they feel comfortable talking to me, it is in this comfort zone they open up and talk about the real issues on their mind. After a long conversation with a Vietnam veteran in El Paso, some of the things he told me stayed on my mind for a while, one afternoon while working in my workshop, I scribbled out three pages of inspiration when I stopped and read what was on the three yellow pages of legal pad I got choked up. After a few days of trying to get the emotions and words in my head onto paper, this poem was born. If you know a Vietnam Veteran you know there is so much they will not talk about as it concerns that War, thus the title of the poem, silence. This poem is gut-wrenching, I also carry a large version of this poem with me when I do shows on base I love to watch readers read this poem, they find a way to continue reading through their tears and get to the end of the poem, I always see a smile on their face when they read the last three lines of the poem. This poem is followed up by another poem titled "The Last One" The poem Silence will also be listed on Amazon in the 16x20 size.
