A wood-firing kiln will teach you patience. That's what I've heard the potter say many times, especially when he's scratching his head over why things didn't turn out the way he'd hoped. But when the kiln works its magic, his patience is rewarded. And the new firing in the small wood-firing kiln was one of those times. Here are a few pieces for that firing. Happy ❤️ Day to our friends near and far.

For the first time we're joining Skagit Wood Expo this tulip season at the Skagit County Fairgrounds and we're stoked! Join us if you can this Saturday and Sunday and see woodworking demos, sawmills, handcrafted wood products . . . and us! If you plan to come and want me to bring specific pottery for you to look at, just let me know. We think this will be a very fun event.

One more weekend of the play AND the start of this year's Tulip Festival. We will be at the PNW Artisan Marketplace again this year, open daily from 10—6, starting this Friday, March 28th. But you can also come to our shop on Hwy 20 and visit with Soda kitty if you like. She's ready to show you some tulip pottery. :)

This March, Woman’s Work Productions brings a story of struggle and triumph to life. Carried by the Current an original play by local author Nicola Pearson.

It's not just pottery at our house, it's plays too. And right now we're gearing up for the encore performance of my play Carried by the Current at the PUD Theatre in Everett. Some of you drove long distances to see this play last March and then talked it up, so our audiences grew and grew. It was heartening to see the power of word-of-mouth, and I thank you very much for that. This year we're trying to get the word out a little earlier and little louder, so please share our fantastic new poster. And if you haven't seen it yet, bring your favorite person/people to learn the story of these inspiring women from Texas, who achieved so much in the late 1800s. Because sometimes we need to look back to see the way forward.

What do Sauk Mountain Pottery and Saturday Night Live have in common? They both celebrate 50 years of doing what they do this year. Yes, 50 years of making pottery in this little roadside attraction. We need to do something to celebrate, don't you think? We haven't worked out what yet and we're certainly not glitzy enough to attract any big-name stars, but we should still honor 50 years of dedication to making functional art from clay. And while we ponder what and how, I'll leave you with some photos of recent and classic Sauk Mountain Pottery. And some photos of the new potter's apprentice, studio kitten Soda.

It's almost that time again. Time for the pottery party. And we're already looking forward to seeing you. :)

Well, the summer months whizzed by at the pottery without me sharing any photos of the summer firings. But every time I would take photos of the pottery, I'd turn around and the pieces had sold. Which is good for us but not so good for keeping up with online sharing. And then we had the arrival of the newest member of the pottery family: granddaughter Katie, born at the end of July. She's kept my mind distracted and my heart full. Now that we're easing away from summer, and I'm finding my balance with grandmotherhood, the path to the studio is littered with orange, gold and amber leaves, there are apples under the tree out in front of the shop and we just unloaded the fall firing. So before the pieces all find homes, here are a few photos of some of the lovely colors that came out of this firing. And—of course—a couple of photos of little Katie. ❤️

The tulips have come and gone and the potter has recovered sufficiently from his shoulder surgery that he fired the big wood kiln last week. The Pass opened a couple of weeks ago, so we've already had visitors to the shop, stopping by to pick up some fresh fired pots, but we have plenty. For now. :) Here's a sampling.
