I finally fixed the 50 year old screen door at my mother's house. The bottom stile was totally rotted off and the bottom of both rails were rotted too. I made a new stile out of pressure treated lumber. The rails I injected epoxy resin into the softwood and this made it solid and workable again. I routed out the lower third of the screen part so I could drop in a new panel piece so the cat can't climb the screen anymore. The addition of a new door handle and paint to finish it off. The only thing I have to do now is paint the main door to match.

I decided to work on a project that will take up a lot of my time, since I am staying in place during this Corona situation. I wanted to do something by hand and to make it as beautiful as I can. This will be a great example of what you can do if you have enough time on your hands. I am aiming to make this a showpiece when finished. This is the body of a Goodell Bros. hand drill. I took off all the paint and I am hand filing all the casting marks and imperfection with small files. I will then hand sand and buff out to mirror shine. This is a very slow and meticulous process. After working on it for 10 hours I figure I am about a quarter of the way done. The last image shown I had put it on the buffing wheel to check my progress.
