Just Announced!

Thursday, September 10th at 6:30pm, local author and retired teacher, Robert L. Fried, visits Gibson's Bookstore to share his book, Passionate Teaching in Troubled Times.

Every teacher can be a passionate teacher—one who engages young people in the excitement of learning and ideas—if teaching is not undermined by the ways we "do business" in schools. In this book, a professor draws on the voices and firsthand accounts of teachers in urban, rural, and suburban classrooms to provide educators everywhere with useful advice and ‘things to try'. Their successes will inspire you to grow and maintain your own passion for teaching in the face of day-to-day obstacles.

Join us at 6:30pm on Tuesday, August 18th as Krista Diamond shares her novel, Close Relationships with Strangers, in conversation with fellow author, Diane Les Becquets.

Close Relationships with Strangers follows a Las Vegas wildlife photographer who moves to Los Angeles to become a paparazzo and in the process loses his relationships, his morals, and eventually his tether to reality.

Reviled by celebrities and the public, Ben is one of the last remaining paparazzi scouring the streets of Los Angeles. Amateurs with camera phones, social media, and a lack of bonafide stars have slowly killed a once essential role in the Hollywood apparatus. Jack Whitlock is one of the last remaining A-listers, and Ben has followed his career since the years he spent bussing tables at a diner in Las Vegas where his most popular movie once filmed a scene.

When Jack Whitlock is suddenly embroiled in a s*x scandal, Ben begins his pursuit, eager for both a big paycheck and a chance to be close to the elusive star. Along the way, he is haunted by mistakes from his past: the photos he took of a pop star that have led to death threats, the ghost of his failed relationship with a burlesque dancer named Ellory, and his abandoned dream of being a wildlife photographer.

Searing and propulsive, Close Relationships with Strangers is a behind the lens tour-de-force through the streets of Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and the desert in between, as readers follow Ben, unrelenting, obsessive, and wry, on a quest that will lead either to his redemption or demise.

It’s always a blast when our friend Clay McLeod Chapman comes to town. This time we celebrated the release of his Horrormance, Devil Inside! He was in conversation with our Queen of Scream, Bookseller Ryan, but first we were treated to a fabulous live reading from the book.
We nearly sold out of copies of Devil Inside (we have ONE signed copy left!), but we will have more copies soon, and we made him sign all of his backlist.
