Have my workstation up & ready to go at The Nutcracker dress rehearsal for New Albany Ballet Co. My task is to take care of any costume repairs or quick fixes during the dress rehearsals & performances. There are 4 performances this weekend. I’m enjoying seeing the NABC staff & meeting new teachers & parents. Two of my grown daughters spent plenty of time here back in the day.

Working on fulfilling an order of 2 - 12x16”faux fur lumbar pillows. I ❤️this fabric! Yes it is a hot mess to work with & will require some serious clean up. But once everything is serged & sewn, one will never know. If you are looking to do some early holiday shopping, I’d love to help you out. Keep in mind that I have a limited amount of this particular faux fur & am not certain if I can get more of this exact piece. This summer I did a bit of traveling and wanted to take a project that was lightweight and portable. So I decided to bring some denim, linen, a bit of canvas,needle and thread along with scraps from my fabric stash. It has been so much fun to play with fabrics,threads and textures & go a little “free range!” I’m loving this color palette of indigo, ochre,merlot complemented with neutrals. I’m envisioning these squares as patches for a jacket,shirt, purse, or tote bag. Maybe you might have some creative ideas for them. Let me know in the comments. I will be posting more this week.

During the cold winter months in Ohio, nothing says cozy more than pillows & blankets…especially knitted pillows. I made this envelope pillow for a friend & enjoyed the whole design & cable knitting process. What I love about this pillow is that the front or back can look great on a sofa, chair, or bed.

Here are before, during, & after photos from a fall project for a lovely couple. Before we embarked on this project, they requested a seat cushion foam refresh on their couch. It made the couch seats more firm and easier for them to get up and down. They were tickled with the whole project which is always the goal. Sometimes small upgrades can make a world of difference.

Thought I’d share a photo from one of our wildflower beds. It’s one of my husband’s outdoor projects this summer. We are enjoying the new blooms that appear on a daily basis. The bees and butterflies have found a new place to land!

Since school is winding down for the summer & people are posting memories from this school year, I thought I’d take a moment to share what we did at The Florence Legacy this spring. Imparting a legacy (which I love to do)involves teaching, passing on traditions, skills,recipes, history & even folklore with family, church, or community.

So when I was invited to spend some time teaching a small group of home schooling moms and their girls to knit, I jumped at the chance. It was a delight! We worked on knitting basics and then started a simple cowl knit on circular needles. (Many thanks to 614 Knit Studio & Knitting Temptations).When the cowl was complete, we worked on a few finishing techniques & began a lightweight shawl for spring & summer. They were quick, enthusiastic learners who generated some fun conversation as well.

I’m currently in the process of developing a few other classes and workshops in knitting, slow stitching, visible mending, and possibly basic machine sewing/basic garment construction. If anyone has any questions or suggestions, please share in the comments, DM, or send an email on my website (link in bio). I’d love to hear your thoughts on how I might be able to provide a class with a skill you’ve always wanted to take.

As I was unpacking another box of Florence’s lovely tapestries, I found a handmade Christmas stocking that Florence made for me when I was a young girl. How delightful to have it as a part of our holiday decor this year!

A few essentials for a fiber art maker….Sewing machine, pin cushion and hand stitching needles, scissors, glasses, phone, and of course COFFEE! The marble top on my desk was from Florence’s table that she had for many years. I value having items that belonged to my grandmother when working and creating nearby and enjoy sharing them with you as well.
