Since school is winding down for the summer & people are posting memories from this school year, I thought I’d take a moment to share what we did at The Florence Legacy this spring. Imparting a legacy (which I love to do)involves teaching, passing on traditions, skills, recipes, history & even folklore with family, church, or community.
So when I was invited to spend some time teaching a small group of home schooling moms and their girls to knit, I jumped at the chance. It was a delight! We worked on knitting basics and then started a simple cowl knit on circular needles. (Many thanks to 614 Knit Studio & Knitting Temptations). When the cowl was complete, we worked on a few finishing techniques & began a lightweight shawl for spring & summer. They were quick, enthusiastic learners who generated some fun conversation as well.
I’m currently in the process of developing a few other classes and workshops in knitting, slow stitching, visible mending, and possibly basic machine sewing/basic garment construction. If anyone has any questions or suggestions, please share in the comments, DM, or send an email on my website (link in bio). I’d love to hear your thoughts on how I might be able to provide a class with a skill you’ve always wanted to take.
