Adobi Ceramics was started in 1972, by Dotti Brown and myself, Bill Brown, hence the unusual name which is derived from Dotti (the “do” coming from her name, and from Bill (the ”bi” coming from my name). the “A” was added at the time as a play on words because the term adobe was a term associated with bricks made from clay, which in later years caused some issue with a certain glaze company that named a glaze
”Adobi Clay” and had to recall the labels and reprint them as Adobe Clay….true story!
Anyway that was 50+ years ago, Dotti is no longer with me, but I kept the name for sentimental reasons. The studio moved in to its current location in 1979, and has expanded the facility three times over the years, to its present size of 15,000 square feet, most of it devoted to mold storage or greenware shelving. Bisque has become an increasingly growing segment of the business, a concept I would not have believed at the turn of the century. Over the years we have carried various colors lines, Mayco, since 1979, Duncan, Gare, Africana, Dona Hues, Scioto, and Studio Stains. For the most part, most of those companies do not exist anymore and we distribute Mayco as our only color line.
As in any business, a lot of changes have occurred over the years, most of them positive, and we have tried to adapt to those changes!
Anyway, please stop by, we do offer a large selection of greenware, try to maintain a decent quantity of bisque and stock most of Mayco’ low fire line.
We do not have a working studio classroom, but sell the products that allow you to do projects at home. However, when possible we do recommend you seek out a qualified teacher to learn ceramics and make it the rewarding hobby it can be.
Thanks again and stop by if you are a hobby ceramists and looking for a wide selection of cast items to chose from.
