Happy Trans Day of Visibility! We don't typically post about these holidays, because every day is Trans Day of Visibility around here. But trans people in this country—especially young trans folks—are finding their backs against the wall in a new way right now, and it's heartbreaking. Trans rights are human rights. These attacks on trans people affect all of us.
Here are just a few books in the shop by trans or non-binary authors. These stories are so important to read and internalize. If you haven't read any trans authors, there's no better time to start.
Here's to hoping (and fighting) for a future where all of us are free to be who we really are.

It's happening, people! Bookspace will very soon have an actual space—with REGULAR HOURS. Russell and Fili at Flux + Flow Dance & Movement Center are welcoming Bookspace into their building at 200 Crestview Rd, Columbus, OH. Flux + Flow is a queer-owned, inclusive, body-positive, gender-affirming space. I feel so fortunate to co-locate and partner with this radical and beloved Clintonville institution.

I super appreciate everyone who has supported Bookspace through this wild seven-year evolution. I started Bookspace to bring a curated selection of books by authors not traditionally represented in bookstores and to highlight topics that deserve attention. My goal is to get books out into the world—books that challenge, disrupt, awaken, and transform. I believe that being your independent bookseller makes a difference in the ideas and actions that are possible. I love putting powerful books in the hands and minds of folks in Columbus (and beyond).

I'm grateful each day that this is what I get to do, and also, selling books is a ton of work. It's not lucrative; the margins are tiny. The bureaucracy of running a business can feel like a Kafka-esque nightmare. As Bookspace expands, I need new systems and resources to make things run smoothly and more efficiently.

The rumors are true! In a couple weeks, Bookspace will be moving into Flux + Flow Dance & Movement Center, and will operate as a bookstore with REGULAR HOURS! More information will be forthcoming, but we're planning a little grand opening party on Sunday, October 9th from 4-7. We're getting started on painting the space today, really doing it up to get it ready for the big move. We are so excited for our two communities to come together! Books and dance in the same space?!
Bookspace needs your help with this transition! We have started a GoFundMe (link in bio) to help with some expenses that need to be taken care of to make this transition, and for Bookspace to be sustainable going forward. Please take a look at it, contribute if you can, and SHARE!
Thanks so much for your continued support of Bookspace and Flux + Flow. We'll be in touch with more updates, and we'll see you soon!

Block party tomorrow, Saturday July 30th to raise money for harm reduction tour!
Here are more details (swipe through) on the big Saturday Block Party to raise funds for  as they stop through their hometown of Columbus on their National Harm Reduction Summer Tour. Come to tomorrow for tunes, food, beers, shopping, prizes, and entertainment. I'll be there with my spread of great books for all your radical reading needs. It'll be a lot of fun! (Note: there is no pop-up at ILLIO this weekend.)
's mission: "Our big summer project LISTEN UP was conceived as a reaction to the fact that accidental fentanyl poisoning has become the number one cause of death for Americans aged 18-45. Fentanyl has made its way into so many recreational drugs being done by people totally unsuspecting of its potential presence.
"In an effort to fight this epidemic, our goal is to distribute Narcan—the lifesaving medicine that reverses an overdose—in spaces where people aren't really thinking about how fentanyl might be present. And so we've decided to go to the heart of where the 18-45 demo will be this summer: music festivals."

I'm really excited about this new one from .books: Never Work: Essays against the Sale of Life. It feels very timely and I can't wait to dive in. Detritus books always have a really nice look and feel, with great images and quotes scattered throughout, and this one is no exception. Check it out at the link in bio, along with the stickers by Detritus also (last slide).
"Work or die is a threat presented as a choice. A few people claim to own the world. When we do not permit them to reap what we sow, they send their lackeys to starve us, imprison us, even kill us. They have succeeded in convincing many people that work is freedom, that it is good for us to toil so that they may profit. Yet from the first day they levied this threat, we have resisted.
"Features essays by: Freddie Baer, L. Susan Brown, Chris Carlsson, CrimethInc. Ex-Workers’ Collective, Tony Gibson, David Graeber, Gerry Hannah, hologram, Luo Huazhong, E. Kerr, Gavin Mueller, Laurie Penny, Fredy Perlman, Margot Pepper, Penelope Rosemont, Herman J. Schuurman, André Thirion, Kevin Tucker, Ummfatik, Raoul Vaneigem, Kassandra Vee, George Woodcock, and John Zerzan."
