What is FLAG DAY?

Flag Day is a U.S. holiday that honors the adoption of the American flag. Flag Day commemorates June 14, 1777, when the Continental Congress approved the design of the first national flag of the United States.

When is it observed? Every year on June 14. No, it is NOT a Federal Holiday, most businesses are open.

How do people observe it?

Displaying the American flag at homes and public buildings
Holding parades, ceremonies, or patriotic events
Learning about the flag’s history and meaning

Quick history -

President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaimed June 14 as Flag Day in 1916.
In 1949, Congress established it as a national observance.

Fun Fact -

The U.S. flag has changed 27 times as new states joined the country—the current 50-star flag has been used since July 4, 1960.

Scouting America is waiving the $85 national registration fee for eligible new and renewing youth in military families. The program begins June 1 and is funded nationally by donations.
