1. The United Press International photo of Thích Quảng Đức taken by my late father in October 1963. You may have seen this before. You probably saw the Malcolm Browne Associated Press one (it became the posters, the RATM album cover, and so on). That’s a longer story for another time.

2. My father in Vietnam.

3. My father getting immortalized in Wikipedia for trolling General Tôn Thất Đính so ferociously at a press conference that Dinh later “credited” my father for the coup.

4. Dinh, probably directing some “vulgarities” at my father.

5. He was a Pulitzer finalist for investigative reporting in 1991. That’s also a longer story for another time.

6. He was deeply proud of this National Association of Black Journalists NABJ award for his reporting on racial disparities in criminal sentencing in Texas. He would have been so honored by Rachel Scott’s questioning of Donald Trump during the NABJ conference in 2024.

Last year, we filmed a bunch of clips of cranked amps for our enjoyment (and yours!) But we didn’t just do that because the action is the juice. We were *studying* too.

Different amps behave differently when cranked. Some stay clean, others get crunchy or fuzzy, some get burly. The Aaron Graves can help you get some of that same magic at a reasonable volume. The rest is up to you.

No actual amps were harmed during this recording. Scientifically, the evidence points to a rubber noise reduction ring around a power tube heating up. But spiritually, we know it was smoking from that tone! Like the flavor profile of any southern BBQ place featured on a tv show, this tone had “a lil’ bit of heat, a lil’ bit of sweet!”

I know some of y’all really loved these old things. I think two things can be true.

1. They can sound great and we made about 800 of them that I’m still proud of and will repair (though sometimes we have to charge a small fee when the issue isn’t exactly “covered by warranty.”

2. We’ve learned some things since we made this pedal and I’m looking forward to showing you what’s next.
