The Superstition: Victorians believed that time stood still at the moment of a soul's passing into a timeless afterlife. Post-mortem photographs, rather than being seen as morbid, were considered necessary acts of remembrance. Children and infants were often positioned to appear peacefully asleep, sometimes held in a parent’s arms or surrounded by flowers, creating a sense of serenity intended to comfort the living and maintain a connection to those lost.
