A little pop of gold brings warmth and elegance to the dinner table. While we always have a generous selection of silver plated teapots and trays, brass dishware is fairly uncommon here at the Cove.

Pictured is a small scale replica of the equatorial armilla from the Beijing Ancient Observatory. The original measures 6 feet in diameter, while this one is only 5.5 inches.
Armillary spheres, which typically sit 2 feet tall, were historically used to model celestial objects. They were invented in China in the 4th century BC.

Another of our recent acquisitions is this beautifully detailed bronze statue of a Chinese scholar named Su Shi. He was known for his poetry, calligraphy, and painting. He was exiled twice during his career until receiving a pardon in 1100, just one year before his death. This statue depicts Su traveling to a new assignment on his mule.

Patina is a tarnish that forms on copper and bronze surfaces over time. It is known for its signature green hue which many consider to increase the items beauty; so much so that we find items, like this elephant, made with an artificial antique finish and patina.
Natural patina is typically uneven whereas artificial patina is neater and more uniform in appearance.
