Many of you know me through 74 Kid Records.
What you may not know is that I’ve been working on a book called Hurts So Good: A Journey in Record Time.
More on that soon.
In this short dream sequence from the book, four songs are referenced.
Can you name all four?
Answer in the comments.
From Hurts So Good…
He adjusted the pillow. Finally fell asleep.
"Dad, I need to find a job."
From the back seat, Walter said, "Sorry about that."
"It's okay, Mr. Krane."
Walter's knees were pushed up to his chest, sitting behind John in the Pinto.
John wound his way down Baker Street.
"There, John," Bill said.
"Dad, where?"
Elvis Presley stood in the street, in a light blue, rhinestone-studded jumpsuit, holding a gold, lighted, spinning arrow sign. Help Wanted.
"Turn right on Carver," Bill said.
Elvis pointed west on Carver.
John turned right, headed west. Halfway down the block, Walter said, "On the right, John."
John slowed to a stop.
"Auto Spin."
It was a new store that sold in-car record players.
A NOW HIRING sign hung in the window.
Next to it another sign: LONG-HAIRED FREAKY PEOPLE NEED NOT APPLY.
"John, tuck your hair under your hat," Bill said.
"I’m not wearing a hat."
"We should park. John, you need to apply," Walter said.
"Let’s find a spot," Bill told him.
John drove slowly, looking. No spaces.
He turned right, drove slow, then turn, turn, turn.
He was back in front of the store.
The sign had changed. Someone had crossed out the W in NOW with a thick black marker. Changed the W to a T.
NOT HIRING.
Walter leaned forward, his CMP badge swinging. "That’s baloney," he said.
“Right place, wrong time,” John said softly.
"Let’s go tell Elvis," Bill said.
