Indoor vermicomposting is a simple, odor-free way to turn kitchen scraps into nutrient-rich compost using composting worms, usually red wigglers. In this compact indoor bin, worms break down fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, tea leaves, and paper bedding into “worm castings” — a natural soil amendment packed with beneficial microbes and plant nutrients.

Because vermicomposting happens in a contained environment, it works year-round in apartments, homes, classrooms, and offices. A healthy worm bin produces little to no odor (it might smell like fresh soil), takes up minimal space, and helps reduce the amount of food waste sent to landfills.

Male-male and female-female pigeon pairs preen each other, build nests together, share incubation duties, and even raise chicks. Humans are part of the natural world, not separate from it. The s*xual, hormonal, and biological diversity we see in our own species needs no justification and represents a small fraction of the diversity we see across thousands of species in our world.

From same-s*x pair bonds in mallards to female-plumaged male cardinals and the rare cooperative family dynamics of eastern bluebirds, birds remind us that diversity exists throughout the natural world.

You can increase pollination and yield in your wildflower, fruit, and vegetable garden, and also enjoy the benefits of observing and caring for wildlife.

Leafcutter bees are native to New Jersey and readily use nesting holes in a bee house (a house built specifically for raising bees, not a commercial ‘decorative’ house that is typically sold at big box stores or garden centers). Join us to learn about how to care for these incredible creatures!
