Made a quick trip yesterday up to Lake Pyramid. Due to forecasted storms, we chose to go up and home the same day.

The bite wasn’t red hot for us and I made the, “Don’t leave fish to find fish” mistake that cost us several hours with no fish.

We went back near Spider point and ended the day with eleven fish to the boat, with several others coming unhitched on their way in. Nothing large, only two in the 6-7 lb range were our largest. We took only quick photos of the fish that we had to physically remove the hook from and safely released everything back to the lake.

I lost two of my favorite Pyramid Lake Tackle spoons, so will have to make another order very soon.

It was a beautiful flat day on the lake. Afternoon winds were predicted to 9-13 mph. But the lake was like glass mostly all day. No winds as predicted.

Overall a great day there and I can’t wait to get back.

I recently had a WhoDat tower installed on my boat. Jim Horton at Reel Custom Boat Works in Lodi measured my boat and provided information on all of the available options. I got exactly what I wanted and the fit is perfect.

Jim also installed the tower, wiring in new back deck lights and installing the radio antenna to the tower. Jim had WhoDat install a tab into the top of the tower that allowed him to bolt my semi rigid frame top to the tower. Tower and frame are solid and sturdy now.

He did a super clean, professional job and I couldn’t be happier with it all. For anyone needing any boat related work, I highly recommend Jim and Reel Custom Boat Works.

I know I won’t catch any more fish due to the tower. But it is nice to have extra rods out of the boat cabin while fishing.

I dropped by Auburn Outboard Marine this week and took advantage of price discounts on their tackle. I purchased almost his entire stock of GVF Draggins. They are one of my favorite lures for Lake Pyramid and they are always productive.

I have duplicate colors, but half will be going to a friend. Tomorrow I will be getting another twelve that I ordered from Kokaneemart.com. I will be well stocked for many trips to come.

Recent trip to Lake Pyramid that did not disappoint. Although our bite was not red hot, we managed to catch and release twenty fish for two half days of fishing. We only jig fished this trip.

The first day, seven of the ten fish caught were all easily double digit fish. I don’t take very many fish photos, as our main concern is getting them safely back in the water.

But great weather and always beautiful scenery. The air was so clear you could see from one end of the lake to the other.

I can’t wait to get back up there and try them trolling.

Yesterday at Bullards Bar the bite was just about as hot as the weather.

We got off to a very slow start, but once I figured out that my corn had fermented, we switched to a fresher batch and it was game on!

Pink was still our best color and at depths 55 to 85 feet.

It was a bit toasty on the lake when we finished so I didn’t photograph all the fish with the tackle that we used. But, it was almost a repeat of the same tackle used last week.

So now based on my experience, corn and a can of tuna in oil is too cheap to try to get by with older stuff. I checked it to insure it wasn’t mushy, but it had definitely gone bad while in my refrigerator. Kokanee do not like corn that smells like some type of rotted wine. 🤣

I will most certainly be doing a better job of “stock rotation” of my containers of corn stored in my refrigerator between trips.

I know corn can be used for more than one trip. But using it after it is tainted can ruin your trip as well, if you are not careful.

But the bite is going pretty well at Bullards Bar if you find a school of willing biters. This year has some of the best overall size and quality that I have seen in several years.

Thank you Steven Adcockfor sharing a great day on the water.

My friend Tim and I decided on a last minute trip today to Bullards Bar. We didn’t even arrive at Dark Day until 7:00 am.

We motored out toward Garden Point and had our first fish on before we had all of our lines in the water.

I ended up switching three of the lines to various pink or pink combinations of Glitterbugs micro hoochies paired with matching Glitterbugs dodgers.

It was a very fast bite and until the breeze died it was difficult to keep our lines in the water.

Most of the fish were in the 12 1/2 to 13 3/4” range. I did keep a few 11 1/2” that would not have survived being released.

We had our limits by 10:30 without ever leaving the area we started in.

55 to 65 feet OTW and around 1.5 mph seemed to be the best depths and speed for us today.

We used corn in tuna oil, but they would have probably been biting any type of corn today.

It is great to see large enough fish at Bullards that they pop the downrigger release and even try to take line on a light drag.

Anyone wanting to take a child fishing, or to introduce someone to trolling for Kokanee, Bullards Bar is the place to do that now.

The fish are fat, feisty and still growing.

Today I took my brother in law fishing at Bullards Bar. He is down from Oregon and had never fished for Kokanee.

My son met us at Dark Day and I was happy to get to fish with him as well. Always great to spend time with him and I can always use the extra help on the boat.

We started out getting mostly d***s, so we moved around to a few spots.

We finally settled on a spot and started picking up a bit better sized fish. We still had to release several smaller ones mixed in, but the majority were 12 1/2” to 13 1/2”.

Orange was the best color for us, but we still picked up some alright fish on pink as well. Glitterbugs dodgers paired with hoochies and spinners were the ticket for us today.

We used garlic and tuna corn and both worked well.

It was a very nice day on the water and the bite did pick up once the breeze came in.

We got fish from 40 to 60 feet and speeds 1.2 to 1.5 mph.

We ended with three limits, plus released twenty smaller fish.

Fished Bullards Bar again today. My friend Michael Davis had recuperated from shoulder surgery enough to get out on the water after Kokanee once this year.

We had a very slow start today and only had a few fish by 10:00 am. We moved a few times and tried different colors until we found a school biting from 80 to 100’ OTW over deeper water.

Most of our fish were caught on Glitterbugs pink and purple hoochies paired with a Glitterbugs pink and purple dodgers. Sorry for no pics with the lures. We took the photos in the parking lot as there was no shade on the lake when we finished. I had already put the tackle away by then.

My battery for my Ulterra died so I had to remove it from my bow and got the last couple fish on my kicker motor.

Fish were all 13-14” inches. Some of the males were turned quite a bit.

The season is coming to a fast end. Today may have been my last trip out for the season.

I included a picture of the gas pump to show just about the only thing I hate about fishing. 🤣🤣

Fished Bullards Bar today with my friend Steve and Craig Newton, owner of Will Fish Tackle in Auburn CA.

We experienced a bit slower bite today than we have on previous trips. We switched colors around and went deeper to end up for the day.

We started the morning in the 50’ OTW range and ended up in the high 60’s to mid 70’s to finish for our limits.

Several people jumping off the dock and swimming all around it at Dark Day on our way on so it was a bit nerve wracking trying to bring a boat to, or away from, the dock.

Fish are changing fast and there may be only
A couple of weeks left until the meat is no longer good to eat.

Sorry that I did not get any more pictures than I did.

I got to fish with a friend of mine I have known since the eighth grade. Needless to say we have know each other for a bit.

We went to Bullards Bar and got on the water around 7:00 am. We got lines in the water just above Garden Point and had a fish on before we got the fourth line in the water.

We started and finished with the same four Glitterbugs dodgers and lures pictured here. We fished from 41 to 55 feet OTW and got fish anywhere in that range. All hooks were tipped with corn soaked in tuna oil. Relatively short set backs at 25-30 feet. The fish seemed to like the speed up around 1.3-1.4 mph and faster, as we got several sets of bites on both outside rods while in a turn.

Over half of the fish still had their chrome scales. Even those that were losing scales and a bit darker still cut fine.

We had a steady bite and netted the last fish right at 10:00. Perfect weather and a great day on the water.

To top it off the ramp at Dark Day was open and no waiting on our way in. Man, it must be my Birthday 🤣🤣.

Today a friend and I made a quick trip to Bullards Bar. We launched at Dark Day and began trolling just north of Garden Point. We didn’t troll far before we located a school of willing biters.

My friend did not have his second rod stamp, so we were only able to fish with three rods. We began with the lures and dodgers pictured and the bite was so good that we never had to change. Other set up not pictured was a Glitterbugs Classic Watermelon dodger and a green and orange micro hoochie.

Corn in tuna oil worked well for us.

Fish were caught from 43 to 50 feet OTW, with 50 feet being the best depth. All fish kept were 12 1/2 to 13 1/2 inches and were fat and feisty. We had several crazy moments where rods went off almost at the same time and we would end up with gear scattered all over the deck and no lines in the water.

We were done before 10:00 am but it was already a hot day once we got off the water.

Fish are changing fast, so the season will unfortunately soon be coming to an end. Get out there if you can and get some.

06/27/2023

Today at Stampede. The bite was a bit slow for us today with most often, little to no breeze. I had problems with my sonar so had a nav screen, but no fish finder.

So I stayed in deeper water and once we found fish, we stayed in that area in large circles until we had limits of fish in the 13” to 14 1/2” range.

The fish were a bit deeper than last time I fished there. We got a couple early morning in the 40’ range, but most we caught from 50-70’ OTW.

Our best lures or colors are pictured. We used Glitterbugs micro hoochies in Watermelon, pink, and chartreuse/orange and Glitterbugs dodgers in watermelon, pink and gold and orange.

We used white shoe-peg corn with tuna oil added.

Overall a very nice day on the water. The heat is on its way!
