Fiddleheads A Great North Woods Shoppe

Fiddleheads A Great North Woods Shoppe Fiddlehead's is a retail shoppe featuring fine American Craft. The toughest challenge was to be able to offer all of this at an affordable and reasonable price.

Fiddleheads began as an idea in early 2006, with the vision to create an artisan gift shop offering quality-handcrafted items to the local community and tourists alike. The items had to be not only of good quality and possess appeal they had to be created by American craftsman. Within that ideal, the focus was to showcase primarily New England and also New Hampshire artisans. There had to also be

a responsibility to offer Fair Trade produced items as well as Canadian since the shop is located approximately 8 miles from the Canadian border. The owner Bette Guerin does extensive research on a continuing basis to find unique offerings, traveling to different venues when the opportunity exists. The shop opened on May 5th, 2007 and was instantly embraced by the local community. The community’s support has enabled Fiddleheads to continue to showcase affordable works of art and to grow its unique inventory. The shop offers “Artisan Spotlights”, which gives local artisans the opportunity to have a day dedicated to their craft and to meet shoppers on a one to one basis. The shop and its artisans have also used these opportunities to support local charities by raising money through raffles using items donated by the artisans. Currently, the shop carries over 125 New Hampshire artisans and an additional 375 New England and National artisans. Produced items by American and Canadian companies continue to grow. An alliance was formed with CRAG (Connecticut River Artisan Group), which has within its membership over 50 artisans from New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and Canada. A gallery space has been created to promote this organizations talent and opened in the Spring of 2010. Fiddlehead's mission is to promote local, regional and national artisans and to be connected to the community through organizations that focus on the arts. Fiddleheads is a member of New Hampshire Made, CRAG and the American Made Alliance. Bette served as VP and Treasurer on the board of the GNWCA (Great North Woods Committee For The Arts) based in Colebrook for 10 years. Looking to the future for ways to broaden the awareness of the arts in the “North County” as well as to provide wonderful gifts for the consumer, Fiddleheads happily takes on the challenge! .Always on the lookout for the unique and special, Fiddleheads continues to find exactly that for their customers!

** BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND **

These hand block printed scarfs are inspired by the garden flowers and wild botanicals surrounding the artist's studio in the state of Washington.

Jenny's scarves are created using a relief printing technique known as block printing, where a design is carved into a block and printed by hand. Each time a print is made, the block is inked and pressed, so every single print is unique.
The light, flowing rayon jersey material is very soft against the skin. They can be worn throughout the seasons, offering lightweight warmth on cool spring and summer evenings, easy cover-up protection on hot, sunny days, and perfect layering for cold autumn and winter weather. Scarves add brightness and a unique touch of art to any outfit.

• 95% rayon/5% spandex
• 20 in. x 60 in.
• Natural rolled edges.
• Hand wash or gently spot clean
• Printed with nontoxic ink

All scarves are designed, sewn, and printed in the artist's studio which overlooks the mountains and waters of the beautiful Pacific Northwest, USA.

Joel and Katy of Rollinsford, NH design their all-natural products packaging with attention to every detail, beginning with the ingredients. They use only all-natural ingredients like goats'
milk, olive oil, shea butter, and essential oils, that feel wonderful when you use them and are just as good for you. They refuse to use parabens, sulphates, fillers, or artificial colors.

Fiddleheads has carried different Balsam Spray and Pillow Spray makers over our 18 years, but we are thrilled to find this particular NH maker who probably makes the best scents we've come across for these two applications.
The Balsam spray gives the wonderful scent of a freshly cut Christmas tree. The Lavender Pillow Spritz will envelop you with a veil of Lavender to lull you off to sleep.
Also, we are happy to carry their unscented Goat Milk soap for those who are sensitive to scented items and have sensitive skin.

At Embrace Our Souls, they believe stories connect us. What began in Minnesota as a personal journey through grief, soon became a women owned business dedicated to creating meaningful earth stone jewelry that helps people feel seen, supported, and connected.

Every bracelet they design carries a story. Inspired by nature, healing, empowerment, love, remembrance, and the human experience, their collections are created to spark emotion and conversation. Each bracelet includes a thoughtfully written tag that transforms it from a simple accessory into a heartfelt gift with meaning. The authentic semi-precious stones used to create the bracelets are listed on the back of each tag, so your recipient knows exactly what they will be wearing.

We have a lovely selection of these beautiful bracelets which carry with them a story about the meaning of the image pictured on each jewelry tag. These are well crafted pieces that are special in their own right, but the story that comes with each, makes them unique.
Pictured are a few of the designs.

Fiddleheads is delighted to be able to offer Ironwood carvings from talented carvers of Arizona and Mexico. Currently, we have a limited supply but hope to be able to acquire additional pieces as they become available to us.

Ironwood carving is a unique form of art from the Sonoran Desert of Southern Arizona and Northern Mexico. It was handcrafted from desert Ironwood, a very dense and heavy wood of intriguing origin.

To be suitable for carving, the wood must be exposed to the extremes of the climatic conditions that exist only in the desert. Years of exposure in this hot, dry environment cause the natural resins to collect, condense and cure, thus transforming the wood into very dense and heavy Ironwood. The government has prohibited the harvesting of living Ironwood trees, causing the artisans to search extensively for naturally fallen trees. No green wood is suitable or used for carving.

Ironwood carving is an unusually demanding art form originated by the Seri Indians, a small tribe that have dwelled in the great Sonoran Desert for thousands of years. Once the wood has been gathered, each piece is hand crafted using very simple tools. It requires long hours of carving, hand sanding and polishing, plus an artistic "eye" to effectively capture the beautiful burl and distinctive grain inherent to Ironwood. The result of this handwork is that no two pieces are identical. There is a limited supply of true Ironwood and a diminishing number of carvers. TAP ON EACH PHOTO TO SEE FULL IMAGE.

UPCOMING ARTIST RECEPTION AND EXHIBIT JULY 17TH

You are invited to join The Connecticut River Artisan Group (CRAG) members and friends on Friday, July 17th, 2026 for an artist’s reception to celebrate the opening of a Solo Exhibit featuring CRAG member Cathy Springmann. The reception will be held at the CRAG gallery within Fiddleheads, 110 Main Street, Colebrook, NH from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The receptions offer assorted appetizers and beverages and will be catered by CRAG member Nancy Smith. Cathy’s exhibit will be on display until August 21, 2026.

Cathy has been creating art from a very young age and has utilized many different mediums over the years. Cathy fell in love with watercolor painting in 2013 and strictly stayed with that until 2023, when she discovered oil pastels. Since then, she enjoys both the challenge and the unique look of combining the two mediums.

Once Cathy raised her four daughters, she quickly got back into her art, and then retiring in 2022, her art became an even larger part of her everyday life. She has been a member of CRAG since 2023 and enjoyed for the first time, doing plein air events with fellow artists. Cathy has also taught CRAG sponsored classes at the GNWCA. A graduate of Montserrat College in Beverly, Massachusetts, Cathy’s work reflects her love of nature and plein air painting.
