We've all been there. You see something beautiful on the rack and think; I have nowhere to wear that.
So, you put it back and move on, leaving it there for someone else to discover, take home, and feel fabulous in.
I get it. Why spend your hard-earned money on something special when there isn't a wedding, party, or big event on the calendar? It can feel impractical. Maybe even a little irresponsible.
But here's what I want you to hear today: You are the occasion.
These photos were taken right outside Sitti's Table, the little eatery across the street from MTN GRL (and if you haven't been there yet, you really should go). I was popping over for a coffee and lunch to go.
I'll be honest—I was a little apprehensive when I chose this outfit that morning. A tulle skirt. A white blazer. An over-the-top custom belt. Cowgirl boots. Feather earrings. It felt like a lot for an ordinary day.
Part of me wondered if I should tone it down. Save it for something special.
Instead, I wore it anyway.
The compliments came all day long, even with my day-four hair pulled into a ponytail—but what stayed with me wasn't what other people said. It was how I felt. Confident and joyful.
By the end of the day, I didn't want to take the outfit off. Not because of the clothes themselves, but because of the reminder they gave me: life doesn't have to be extraordinary for us to celebrate ourselves in it.
So many of us are waiting for a reason. Waiting for the special occasion. Waiting until everything is just right.
But what if today is enough?
What if a Wednesday lunch, a coffee date, a day at work, or a walk downtown is reason enough to wear the skirt, buy the flowers, light the candle, or do the thing that makes you feel a little more alive?
I hope I encouraged a few women that day to put themselves out there, to take up a little space, and to stop saving all the good things for "someday."
And if you're reading this today, I hope you're encouraged too.
It doesn't have to be fashion, but whatever it looks like, celebrate yourself. You’re worth it.
