Sometimes, the frost really bums me out.

These two green peppers (right) were on a Santa Fe plant and they're HUGE in comparison to the normal size (left) for this variety.

Too bad frost killed the plant already. 😭

😍 Reaper babies!

Our new 2022 plants are starting to fruit with 3 to 5 peppers per plant, right on schedule.

But this Carolina Reaper plant is 3 years old, moved with us halfway across the country, and is carrying 20+ fruit already!

In our ❄️ climate, peppers can't survive in the ground over winter. But superhots take so long to mature, so we dig them up, pot them up, and bring them inside. πŸͺ΄

And this is why! 🌢 5x the fruit! πŸ˜‹

We have buds! πŸ₯³ Pepper 🌢 buds! 😘

Since we moved to New York last fall, we had to re-establish all of our pepper plants.

We sowed over 400 seeds and saw an overall germination rate of over 80% - which is really great, especially for superhots.

We double sow all of our peppers, and find they grow better together in pairs.

We split up the seedlings into test groups so we can determine how they fare in a new climate.

(Testing: Grow bags, in the ground, soil amendments, soil types, mulch methods, etc.)

So, you can imagine how big of a relief it is to see healthy plants budding out!

Can't wait to start harvesting, storing, and making our hot sauce this year!

A lot of y'all have asked us what stock we'll have available, how much, etc. We have found homes for a lot of our friends so far, but we have many remaining.

Due to high demand and to help us keep track, we've listed our available stock on our website.

View availability here: https://rootsanddreamsfarm.com/collections/moving-sale

You can purchase online and then call or text to set up a time to pick up.

If you have any questions, please call or text us - we are not able to keep up with social media or email right now.

We will also have our feeders, waterers, and other supplies that will be available after our feathered and furry friends have new families.

We will be moving this summer and have made the difficult decision to part with our stock and start over in our new home at a later date.

Our breeder flocks (Delaware, Welsummer, and Ayam Cemani) and mixed flocks (layer hens, guinea fowl, and bourbon red turkeys) will be available for purchase in the coming weeks.

Brownie, our 11 month old Holstein x Angus heifer, will also need a new home. We are currently trying to find a boarding arrangement for Moonpie, our Holstein cow who is due to calve in late June. If we cannot find one soon, we will also need to find her a new home.

Farm Pick-up Customers: 4/17/21 will be our last available order date for raw milk and/or eggs.

We really appreciate your support and hope that you have enjoyed the farm as much as we have!

Thanks so much,
Kenna & Brian

We are looking to find our Rusty Slate turkey tom a new farm to call home. We love him, but our hens are getting overmated with multiple toms.

More info and contact info here:

Rusty is a 15-month-old tom, hatched December 17, 2019, created with our Bourbon Red and Slate turkeys. He's extremely friendly, coops up at night with chickens and other turkeys, likes to follow...

Our hot sauce is back! We have three varieties of small-batch hot sauce this year:

Faranth is a spin-off of our small batch hot sauce last year: same smokey flavor, more heat. WAY more heat. We used Carolina Reapers, Death Spiral, Naga, and Scorpion Tongue peppers in Faranth this year.

Ayida is a Caribbean-inspired mango habanero style hot sauce, but again, more heat! The bulk of the peppers in Ayida are scotch bonnets, but you'll also find habaneros, sugar rush cream, lemon drop, and paprika. It's a sweet hot and great on pork, chicken, and shrimp.

Endriago is a Southwestern hot sauce based on chile de arbol and jalapeno peppers with lime juice. It's great for Mexican food, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, flautas, carne asada - you name it.

What's listed is what we've got and we sold out last year, so make sure to go grab yours: https://rootsanddreamsfarm.com/collections/hot-sauce

πŸ‘‰ Important Update: We are temporarily suspending any deliveries or orders through 11/20 due to COVID quarantine. πŸ‘ˆ

Throughout the pandemic, we have constantly weighed the risk of making our deliveries that are, in most cases, contactless, but in the very least, socially distanced. We always wear KN-95 masks, sterilize and sanitize everything, and are obsessive about handwashing. Many of our customers are high risk and that is why we do what we do - to make their lives easier so they do not have to leave their houses.

Recently, one of our children was exposed to COVID and we are awaiting test results. We have sent an email to our customers with more specific information (so please check your email!). We hope to be able to return to deliveries after the 10 day period.

COVID cases almost doubled in our county this week. Please take care when out and about: wear a mask, wash your hands, and keep six feet apart.

πŸ“Έ: Some of our Spring Mint Eggers have started laying. Two mint eggs next to one of our cream-colored Ayam Cemani eggs. Photos just don't do these babies justice!

Time for new homes for some our flock! Shoot us a message if interested.

Three Bourbon Red jakes of various ages - ranging from 16 to 24 weeks. (This is their father, our Tom Riddle - not available. Our Bourbon Reds are EXTREMELY friendly to humans and co-exist free ranging with other poultry.) $25 each.

Multiple (around 20 total) breeder cull cockerels from our Delaware, Welsummer, and Fibro Mint Egger flocks. Eat 'em or keep 'em, $5 each.

Hey, thanks, chickens!

Our batches of meat chickens this Spring left trails of sunflowers and dent corn growing in their wake.

Now the layer flocks will have winter treats! It helps combat boredom to feed the whole sunflower head - similar to puzzle cubes and maze bowls for dogs.
