Paint is about 90% done thanks to everyone! Monday we will do the deck and pedestal, touch up spots we can see we missed once the paint dries and Tuesday do the detail work with red, black and yellow where it’s needed if the weather holds!

We have a start getting our reprints of classic WWII posters on the website. These come on a heavy duty polyester canvas material that both looks amazing and is far, far more durable than paper or cardboard.

We are continuing to add them daily and may start posting a “poster of the day” as well.

These are great to display and a much more affordable option than the originals that usually sell for hundreds of dollars.

We have had some amazing folks volunteer to help get the Big Gun ready for painting! If you have some free time stop by and we can point you in the right direction, we need people to help remove rust and do prep work before painting day and on paint day!

Painting will be this Saturday as long as the weather looks right, starting at 8:30. You can stop by any day before to help with prep removing rust, just come in the store and ask for the supplies.

Just in to the shop, an original WWII Office of Civil Defense Physicians Kit case. These were made for use by local doctors who volunteered to treat the wounded in case of attack, this was a very real fear and threat early in the war in Hawaii and the West Coast. And of course this carried over into the 1950’s and the Cold War for a very different threat.

In great shape overall. Sometime after the war it was painted black to cover the original markings but the paint on the front has been carefully removed to show the original paint and markings below.

Big Gun painting update- the weather has not cooperated much the last week but we have still accomplished a lot with the help of a number of volunteers! We still have lots of prep work to be done removing the small spots of rust and spraying primer on the bare metal to prep it, anyone who wants to help just stop in and ask for the box of supplies we have everything you need.

Weather permitting we should still be on track for a painting day on Saturday June 6 as well. If enough prep work gets done over this weekend we may even get a faster start on that!

Who would be interested in high quality reproduction WWII posters? Testing an idea we printed some samples up on a high quality art grade canvas material with our backup map printer and they turned out great!

Prices would run about $15 for them on regular paper or $20 on the heavy canvas (well worth the $5 extra) and we have high resolution images of hundreds of originals we can work with. The 4 we show here are just a sample.

If there is enough interest we can add them online to our website, eBay store or Etsy shop. Let us know what you think!

This Memorial Day we all take time to reflect on the sacrifices made by those lost in service to our Nation and their families as you enjoy your day off.

If anyone is looking to do a little public service towards that we still need help preparing the Big Gun for its upcoming repainting this weekend. Come by and grab a brush and some primer and help scrape and prime it. We are open until 5:30 and have all the materials you need on hand across the street. Just drop in and ask!
