Hello! We’re starting to launch our Oregon Sunstone story into the 21st century by creating a webstore for you to peruse and shop from.
But first we’ll start with a little bit of how we got here…
“Mom and Pop” King were avid rock hounders who came across the future Oregon State Gem in the 1960’s and with the help of their son “Lee” staked their first claims shortly after. This was after many visits and discussions with Bob Rogers who had the patented mine which is now the “spectrum” mine, as well as encouragement from longtime friends George and Helen Marshall.
Back then it was mostly hand digging with little machinery involved. Eventually our first machine dug pit was opened in the 1970’s which has since been reclamated.
We will be posting here with some stories, what’s happening now with our claims and how you can visit our family mining area for fee digging and purchasing stones.
Many of you know Mailand “Lee” King and his “Pier Avenue Rock Shop” on the Oregon coast and we are pulling all of our resources together including the rock shop. Now the grandsons of Mom and Pop are leading the charge of making the family mine a responsible, active and working mine open to the public.

After over 55 years of playing in the desert hand mining Oregon Sunstones it's about time we bring our shop into the 21st century.

We've expanded operations which will include fee digging this year as well as wholesale rough and cut stones, which we hope you will enjoy.

Starting with "Mom and Pop" Marguerite and Mailand King who were lifelong rockhounds along with their son Mailand "Lee" King, they filed their first claims in 1971 which are still in our possession. Now with Lee's sons Mailand "Buzz", Lynn and Jesse taking the reigns we're hoping to keep this going for many more years to come.
