And just like that, our first round of kids teaching kids workshops are finished! The student exhibition was up for the month of May, showcasing our wonderful youth instructors and their equally as wonderful students' work. We are very grateful to the Tennessee Arts Commission for supporting this programming through the Arts Build Communities grant. With this support we were able to serve a broad range of youth from surrounding areas, and foster creativity, confidence, and leadership in local youth instructors. Thank you to our instructors and their parents, our awesome students, and our supporters!

Kids Teaching Kids is a new initiative to promote youth creativity and confidence in young artists. Workshops are led by a youth artist aged 10-17 under staff supervision, and designed for students aged 8-17 in traditional Appalachian crafts based disciplines. Kids Teaching Kids workshops are offered at a reduced rate thanks to support from the Tennessee Arts Commission Arts Build Community Grant. To help keep these youth-led workshops thriving, we invite you to consider making a gift to the program. Workshops can only continue with ongoing funding, and your contribution directly supports the next generation of young makers and leaders!

Students in youth instructor Niko's needle felting class had a blast making their spring-themed projects! They chose their colors and learned basic needle felting techniques like compressing and connecting simple shapes. We think their flowers made for a beautiful garden in the classroom!

ANOTHER CROSSOVER ALERT! Our Kids Teaching Kids and Craft in the Community programs combined classes again as one of our talented youth instructors, Nancy Boyatt, taught older adults at Lafollette Court Assisted Living! Nancy developed an implemented a class on clay pinch-pot teacups and supported those older adults who decided to create baskets. She also had help from wonderful adult and youth volunteers! Great job, Nancy, on all your hard work!

Last week we conducted a one-time class with LaFollette Court Assisted Living to explore the world of collage! Participants picked images that called to them, incorporating symbolism and listening to their inner wisdom. Additionally, they explored the kinesthetic process of ripping/cutting paper, gluing onto the paper, and smoothing the glue lines. We can't wait to see these framed!

CROSSOVER ALERT! Our Kids Teaching Kids and Craft in the Community programs collided in an awesome class taught by youth instructor, Carolynn Butterfield, at Meadow View Assisted Living ! Carolynn developed an implemented a class on clay animal shakers which she successfully taught to a class of older adults. She also had help from wonderful adult and youth volunteers! We are so proud of Carolynn, and the older adults loved supporting a young artist.
