Clevo Books

Clevo Books Clevo Books is an independent publisher and seller of books in translation located in the heart of downtown Cleveland. So why Clevo Books?

We seek out titles from around the world that offer insight into how our ancestors lived, or people from different cultures continue to live at the daily level - sharing with us cooking, gardening, and crafting practices as well as with history. In short, we facilitate exploration of the roots of cultural identity. We decided to pay homage to our hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland is home to o

ver 100 ethnic groups with established communities (clevelandpeople.com). We are a microcosm of the world. We imagine Clevo Books to be the city's proxy conduit for knowledge that is willingly shared and received between cultures to make life more interesting and fun in our own world, wherever that may be.

Clevo Books to Close Brick and Mortar Shop by June 30th.

To our incredible community,

After four wonderful years downtown, we are closing our physical brick-and-mortar storefront at the end of June to transition into an online-only bookstore. We are incredibly proud of the beautiful space we built together, but high retail overhead means we must turn the page to a more sustainable digital future.

To clear our shelves, we are launching our Storewide Inventory Liquidation Sale starting TOMORROW! This Week Only: Take 20% OFF everything in the store! And we will open from 12-4pm on Sundays as well.

Crucial Note: To help us fund our transition and pay our staff directly, we are requesting CASH ONLY at the register. (Cards will only receive 10% off)

Come visit us, grab your favorite titles before they are gone, and help us close this chapter with a bang.

Thank you for your loyalty!

-Cathryn and Marc

Struggling to make it downtown? We're putting our inventory online so you can order directly from our store through the website! You can choose to pick up or to ship. Do be patient with us as we update things without images, descriptions, etc. Email [email protected] if any questions arise. Or call us at 216 354 5354. If you're looking for non-translated (not from Cleveland non-fiction) books, we will still have a link to our bookshop.org page.

Parking advice recently shared on our social media and website:
Every bus that goes down Euclid Ave stops about two hundred feet from our store at E 9th, and we’re walking distance from the Tower City rapid station. Bus passes are $5 and easy to buy on the Transit app. If you’re driving, it’s good to plan ahead. Street parking is available for $1.50/hr for two hours and costs $10.50 for 4 hours (parking is no longer free after 6pm or on weekends). You have to pay via the Parkmobile app. If Huron is full, try Prospect, Chester, or Walnut. There are parking garages nearby, but the best prices we’ve seen are at the PNC garage on Vincent, between E 9th and E 6th streets. $3 for 1 hour, $6 for up to 4 hours before 4pm weekdays. $4 evening rate after 4pm weekdays and all day Saturdays (be sure to check sports calendars so you don’t get caught paying game day rates!). If it’s a nice day and you don’t mind walking a couple of blocks, street spots are usually also available on St. Clair, or there are uncovered lots on E 13th St that might cost less. This information was found on the internet and was current as of the time it was published. Do let us know if you see any changes, but we cannot be held responsible for those changes, we can only update them. Do share any deals you may have spotted as we’ll try to share them here too. We also cannot be held responsible for any experience you have with parking at all, although whatever you share with us will help us inform others.

There are extraordinary writers who write in the English language. There are also extraordinary writers who don’t write in English. Thanks to translators and the publishers who work with them, we can read many of them in English. Follow us for when you’re ready to explore beyond your English language writers. Check this space for recs and comparisons to authors you know. Let’s all make the world smaller by reading more of it!

We usually order in increments of 5. But it seems our last order was for 31!!! What???Now the call from the publisher offering to connect readers to the author online makes so much more sense! We could send some back, but it happens to be a fave title of mine, so guess what my absolute number 1 rec is going to be for a while🤣 (it would have been anyway, tbh) What’s it about, you ask? Imagine two middle-aged people sitting next to each other on a train to Paris. They pretend not to recognize the other, but each proceeds to relive the relationship they had in their 20s for the entire trip. How can they just sit there that long with all those feelings bubbling back up inside them and will the tension that builds explode on the train? It’s a great and relatable story by Jean-Philippe Blondel at under 150 pages. And a seamless translation from the French by Alison Anderson. Come get yours, we have enough!
