I haven’t done one of these in a while, but I’ve been really excited to do this one as it’s probably what I believe to be the most exciting thing about Hyundai today!!
The year was 2014 This is the year Hyundai made the best decision in company history!
After multiple failed attempts to go after enthusiasts, Hyundai brought onboard Albert Biermann. Albert had been working with BMW since the early 80s to work on the E30.
Albert’s strength and area of expertise was chassis engineering and his work on roll cages. By 2008 he was the President of the M division. During this time, some of the coolest M cars ever came out. So who better to make Genesis fun and exciting as Hyundai got ready to launch Genesis as it’s own luxury brand?
While his Genesis work was outstanding, it was the work he did with they Hyundai lineup that completely turned the brand around and left everyone doing double takes over a Hyundai moving forward.
In comes “N!” Hyundai’s latest take in Performance motor works. Similar to what BMW already had with M, Biermann has come out with some of the most exciting cars even sought out by enthusiasts today.
The N stands for two cities. Namyang this is the city in South Korea where Hyundai’s R&D center is located. And then there’s also Nürburgring!
The site for one of the toughest tracks is the world sits. The extreme curves, elevation, and road conditions make for one of the most barbaric testing you can put a road car through. This is where Hyundai is now developing some bad ass cars!!!
In the US, you can currently get 3 out of the 6 N cars made thus far. These are the Veloster N, Elantra N and Kona N. You can also get The Sonata, Tucson, Kona and Elantra as an “N Line” trim. Similar to what BMW does with their M Sports Package, Hyundai also offers a trim on these modes which have improved steering, suspension, and aerodynamics for a more “spirited” drive and you put the car is Sport or Sport + driving mode!
After numerous attempts at making a cool fun car for the enthusiasts (scoupe, Tiburon, and Genesis Coupe) Hyundai has finally done it!
It’s just a shame Han didn’t get to see it (Tokyo Drift 😂)
And while Albert Biermann has stepped down and is now only working as an advisor, this brand is cooking up some really fun and exciting cars!!!!!
If you want to get your hands on one, you already know! !
