Performance day.

When I was a child, I had delusions of grandeur. A starring role on Broadway, going on tour with my rock band, giving my acceptance speech as I claimed my fifth Oscar.

A real triple threat.

My dreams were big and full of dramatic and fantastic details. The only issue I had was my complete and total lack of talent. So for decades, all I could do was simply imagine on occasion what it would be like to live that life of a performer in the arts.

I now have a taste.

I watch Jakob.

On auditions, in rehearsals, performing on stage.

And entering the Stage Door at the Royal Ballet and Opera in London.

In all my wildest of dreams, I never imagined experiencing this.💙

At first I thought it was a stray dog. Then I noticed the black feet. Couldn’t decide what I should do…take video or throw myself between the potentially rabid fox and Jakob. I ended up just standing there, pointing at it, and saying, “that’s a fox” over and over while Julie took video. Then I asked Chat GPT. Apparently, “urban foxes” are common here. As common as squirrels at home. Crazy! What an education we’re getting!!!🤪🤣💙

We’re finding our way around London.

Sort of.

Jakob is as he always is…our navigator. We tell him where we want to go, he gets us there. Good thing, because the rest of us wouldn’t do anywhere near as good of a job.

We’d be lost a lot.

Now if it would just get easier for us to choose restaurants and make “bookings,” we’d be in pretty great shape.

Cheerio!

What he’s been up to.

We’re in London. He’s performing at a festival being presented by the Royal Opera. Here’s a snippet from today’s rehearsal.

He made it clear at yesterday’s rehearsal that he loves the spotlight.

Clearly, he was speaking the truth.🤣💙

Hard to believe that for 22 years he ate the same 20 foods. Then he became able to openly communicate. Now he eats stuff like this.

One cello. One singer. One actor. That’s all there is on stage this time.

But it’s still a complicated production.

Only two days of rehearsals before Jakob and Hailey, who plays his mom, perform. It’s not a lot of time, but I’m confident they’ll pull it off.

Mem and Kitsune. Mother and son.

Rehearsals for Sensorium Ex have barely begun and I’m fighting back tears. He is so happy. He’s in his element. He spelled that he feels whole here.

He and Hailey McAvoy perform on Saturday and this is his attitude going in.

The jet lag is real.

We’re getting ready to head to lunch and then rehearsal this afternoon. We’re in London with the opera Jakob starred in last spring, Sensorium Ex. He’ll be presenting and performing at a festival being presented by the Royal Opera of London.

Fancy, huh?

We arrived yesterday morning after coming in on the red eye. We’re adjusting. Some of us slower than others.

But his priorities are in place. No matter how tired he may be, he has yet to miss a meal.😉💙
