Here’s a spark notes version of what we learned during certification:
* Solid Gold - completely and 100% 14k gold. While this has the highest price point, it can last a lifetime and makes beautiful long lasting pieces.
* Gold Filled - very similar to solid gold and holds many of the same qualities, except gold filled requires less of an investment. Gold filled is not as expensive as solid gold and requires less maintenance than gold plated—making it the perfect happy medium!
* Gold Plated - the cheapest option, but requieres more maintenance and will wear out within weeks as it is less than 1% of actual gold in the piece. (NOT available at Linked by Leah)

If you’re looking to get permanent jewelry, it’s important to know what material you’re investing in. Gold plated, gold vermeil and stainless steel are not recommended in the permanent jewelry industry. The most quality options are solid gold, gold filled and sterling silver.
