⚔️ The Warrior's Yggdrasil: A Legacy in the Making ⚔️
Sometimes the best art happens when a piece takes on a life of its own.
This special Father’s Day commission started simply enough: our oldest daughter fell in love with one of our signature copper and turquoise wire trees. Knowing her boyfriend shared the exact same taste, she knew it would be the perfect gift.
But as we started building, the piece demanded a story. Eric had the brilliant idea to incorporate a striking bronze skull, and the moment we set it against a rugged, weathered piece of driftwood we’d been saving, everything clicked.
The result? An epic, Norse-inspired sculpture where a vibrant canopy of shield-bright turquoise chips bursts from hand-twisted copper branches. The roots cascade down, claiming the ancient wood and wrapping the fallen warrior's skull in an eternal embrace. It’s a powerful tribute to strength, endurance, and the protector spirit—and the official spark for our upcoming Viking Warrior Series.

The irrigation water is officially flowing, which means the annual homestead split is back:

1️⃣ Akela: Fully committed to the ditch-water lifestyle. Maximum mud achieved. 🦦💦
2️⃣ Sheriff Yodin: Refuses to get his paws dirty because a deputy with muddy boots can’t chase down trouble. He’s got to stay pristine to stay alert! 🤠🔍

Teamwork cleared the ditch, the mountains delivered the views, we fit in a quick rock haul (kinda mandatory😅), and the local geese gave us the stamp of approval. Spring is officially spring-ing! 🏔️❤️

👇 TIME FOR A DOGGY TALENT SHOW 👇
We want to see your fur babies! Drop a photo of your pup in the comments (or tag us in your stories if you’re on Instagram) and let us know: Are they a chaotic mud-monster or are they on official neighborhood watch duty? Show us your favorites! 👇

Powered by Milwaukee. Sweetened by Honey. 🍯⚙️

We’re taking "homemade" to a whole new level at Mountain Trails Homestead. Forget hand-cranking—we’re using high-torque engineering to get the smoothest, creamiest honey vanilla ice cream you’ve ever tasted. 🏔️✨

Golden Honey 🍯 for this batch!
immersion blender for that perfect whip.

Homemade Vanilla with a whole lot of heart 🫶—a huge shoutout to my dear friend Kali at Our Crazy Ranch Life () for this incredible extract!

Work smarter, eat better, and always use the right tools for the job. 😉

Stay Tuned: I’ll be dropping the full recipe and a deep dive into how I use my freeze-dried stash to level up these flavors soon! 📝❄️

Yesterday’s snow kept me off the roads and in the kitchen. ❄️
Honestly, my energy has been a bit off lately, but leaning into these familiar homestead rhythms helps. There is something grounding about the simple magic of watching cream turn into butter. It’s a quiet way to stay productive when you just need to be still. And other than canceling the day making me miss time with my girls, sometimes the best thing you can do on a snow day is just stay put and create. 🧈✨
The butter is tucked away now, and I have a fresh jar of buttermilk ready to try out in a recipe soon. 🧈✨

"Growth & Gratitude" Charm Tree

Sometimes, the most meaningful gifts are born from a change of plans. When my daughter, Taylor, wanted to honor her daughter Skylar’s teacher for the upcoming teacher appreciation week, she originally envisioned some fun teacher themed sets of earrings. However, after a parent-teacher conference, she realized the teacher’s ears weren’t pierced—a small detail that led us to create something far more symbolic.💙🔨

This teacher has been a true advocate for Skylar, recognizing the special soul she is and helping her find her voice. This year, Skylar reached incredible milestones, and to honor that growth, we "grew" this hand-twisted wire tree. 🌳

Introducing the Charm Tree Series
Much like my "Listening Trees," this piece is designed to hold space for stories, in the form of removable charms. Each school-themed charm is attached with a lobster clasp, making them completely removable and interchangeable. It isn’t just a gift for today; it’s a way for this teacher to hang new memories or milestones as she continues to inspire her students!

Anchored to a hand-carved green marble apple and branching out with Blue Apatite—the stone of communication and clarity—this tree stands as a symbol of the patience and wisdom she pours into her classroom every day. (I did not carve the apple 😆)

Stone Elements & Symbolism
Blue Apatite (The Leaves)💙🍃
The vibrant blue stones used for the "foliage" of this tree are Blue Apatite.
• Blue Apatite is a stone of manifestation and humanitarianism. It is believed to stimulate the intellect and improve communication, making it the perfect stone for someone who spends their days speaking truth and encouraging young minds to expand. These stones are known for enhancing creativity and clearing confusion.
Green Marble (The Apple)🍏
The base is a beautiful, polished apple carved from Green Marble.
• The Apple: Historically, the apple symbolizes the "fruits of knowledge." Giving an apple to a teacher stems from the idea of providing them with the sustenance they need to nourish the minds of others.
• The Stone: Green Marble is associated with stability, strength, and rebirth. It provides a grounded, calming energy—essential for the classroom.

🌿There’s a whole forest captured inside every piece of Moss Agate. 🌲✨
I’ve been spending time at the bench hammering out this favorite scrolled frame in a trio of metals to see how each one changes the "mood" of the stone.
🥈 Sterling Silver for a crisp, morning-mist feel.
🟡 Brass for that golden hour glow.
🥉 Copper for a warm, grounded earthiness.

Which metal is your favorite?

Do you know what metals make up brass?🤓

A very special birthday project from the studio this week! 🔨⚒️
My youngest daughter came to me with a vision for her best friend’s birthday: a "Compass" set that fits together perfectly. We’ve seen a lot of friendship jewelry pass through this house over the years, but these pendants really captured their bond. A fun handmade throwback to their tradition!
I finished them with custom chain and cord lengths to suit them both. It’s an honor to create pieces that tell a story of a friendship that’s lasted a lifetime. Love them both!

I remember coming home from school as a kid in HS, so excited to have learned about the Homestead Act. My mom’s response was to take me to the bank vault at Wells Fargo to show me our family’s original deeds and land grants, as she shared in my excitement💙. I remember thinking how cool it was to have a literal piece of American history in our family. 📜✨
Fast forward to today: I’m in my 40s, and my husband and I are living that very history right here on the homestead. 🏔️
Included in todays photos:
• The original documents that started it all
• My Great-Grandparents, Robert Joseph and Nellie Armitage, with Grandma Grace as a child with other siblings
• Grandma Grace and Grandpa Lester 🤍🩶
Walking this soil every day is a gift I don't take for granted. I am so honored to be the one carrying this story forward. 🌲❤️

I am so excited about this tree that I created as it was requested to be made by my sister, Ada! Made with lots of extra love🩷

The 🍓Strawberry Quartz🩷 and Cimarron Precambrian Gneiss Tree

I love the process of creating. For my trees, I head to the trails for the natural base stones, hand picked from my family property. This ensures that every sculpture is literally grounded in a specific place and time, & with much thought.

This particular piece is a labor of both strength and delicacy. Weighing a solid five pounds, it possesses a grounding presence that mirrors the ancient stones it sits upon. I utilize tarnish-resistant jewelry wire to hand-twist each branch, crowning the canopy with genuine Strawberry Quartz, and then soldering the roots under the stone base.

About the Stones🩷

Strawberry Quartz is a rare and beautiful variety of quartz characterized by tiny, sparkling inclusions of Hematite and Lepidocrocite. These natural "seeds" give the stones their unique strawberry hue and deep, shimmering layers.
The Energy of the Tree:
Commonly known as the "Stone of Inner Love," Strawberry Quartz is cherished for its ability to:
- Radiate Positivity: Bring a sense of calm, balance, and joy to its surroundings.
- Encourage Growth: Symbolize the unfolding of one's true path and the strengthening of the heart.
- Inspire Creativity: Spark new ideas and provide the motivation to see them through with grounding yet vibrant energy.

Cimarron Precambrian Gneiss is some tough stuff!
- The Energy of Ancient Origins: As some of the oldest rock on the planet, Gneiss is the ultimate stone of longevity, endurance, and deep-rooted stability. It represents the "Ancient Grandmother" energy of the Earth.
- Transformation through Pressure: A stone of metamorphosis, Gneiss survived unimaginable heat and pressure to become something stronger and more beautiful. It symbolizes the ability to remain unshakable during life’s most intense challenges.
- Geometric Harmony: The distinct light and dark bands represent balance and duality—the yin and yang of the physical world. It helps harmonize the spiritual (light minerals) with the grounded/physical (dark minerals).
