See those highlighted dates? Those are the dates the shop is closed to the public. See that date looking all bright & shiny with the highlighted rays? That’s when we open again. Please take note, although I’ll remind you again. Also, I miss these amazing OK teal clips we originally offered with our clip calendar. I mean, look at that color. And don’t you feel like it’s all gonna be OK when you see it? I sure do.
See ya on the 18th! If you need a card in the meantime, the website is alway open.

Just a lil reminder the brick & mortar is closed through the 17th. We’re busy inside, taking down holiday, counting cards and supplies and all the goods. As well as filing papers, submitting paperwork and all the things that go into running a wholesale business, a website and retail storefront. These things take time and we want to make sure we can focus on it. Believe me, it’s better for our retail customers. Imagine walking in while we’re in the middle of counting 100’s of LePens and us being unable to greet you. That would be rude and mama taught me better than that. See ya on the 18th! If you need a card in the meantime, the website is alway open.

New year! Time to learn a new-to-me press! I’m always slow to change. I might even be considered change adverse. However, my beautiful 1913 C+P, Wilamina, wants to retire, I can tell. I’ve had her motor worked on twice this year and it’s still not right. I’ve been putting off learning the windmill (shown) due to deadlines and learning curves, however, I don’t really have a choice now. This press was gifted to me last summer. It’s long overdue I got to know it. I’ll be calling it T.S. after the yellow handwritten The Small One on the front of her. I was told by Bill, the previous owner, when he was about 7, he grabbed some yellow paint, a paint brush and went around his family’s print shop painting names on all the presses. 😊 He’s in his 60’s now and wanted it to go to someone who would use it and love it. Did I mention my wedding invitations were printed on this same press in 2004? 🥰 It’s true. While I’ve loved this press from the first time we met in the early 2000’s, it’s time I really got the know her. So. Here we go. I can tell that we are gonna be friends.✨

As 2023 comes to an end, I see lots of businesses sharing their wins. Which are important to celebrate, of course, but what about the rest of the year? No year is entirely wins or loses. Most of the year we’re somewhere in between. My 2023 started with a lot more questions than answers. I had a major surgery scheduled for mid January and was in hustle mode until the day of, trying to make sure afd could float while I was on medical leave. The end of 2023 is mostly calm. Maybe a teeny-tiny disappointing but just in that in between, no elation, no despair. Instead of sharing the picture perfect view of afd this year, I thought I’ll share our misses and our hits. A little balance of the two.
Misses of 2023
5. Not making Faire’s Top Shop all of the four quarters
4. Not hitting our December sales goals
3. While trying to catch up on printing, running my antique press’ motor so hard it actually caught fire and needed to be serviced, putting me on hold for a couple weeks
2. Being on medical leave for almost 3 months and not getting my stamina back
1. Not feeling creative or inspired enough to make new cards
Hits of 2023
5. After a year of conceptualizing, I created my signature stationery themed candles with
4. Worked with to launch our new website
3. Created custom hot dog pencils for
2. Successfully created and organized Albany Park Sip, Shop & Trolley Hop with new friends, and
1. Trusted and relied on my helpers to keep afd going through two breast cancer surgeries & nearly three months of medical leave. All while flowing with the hills and valleys of the unknown, keeping my sanity and sunny disposition…mostly
So there you have it. Our 2023 hits and misses. The overarching theme this year was really just get healthy and hang on and I’m making peace with that. I said “no” more often this year and made time to heal and take care of me. I did fewer shows, hosted fewer events and quitely celebrated 19 years of afd. It was a strange ride and I thank you for being with us along the way. Perhaps 2024 will be a big growth year. Or maybe not, and that’s ok too.

It might even feel like a spotlight is focused on who or what we don’t have instead of what we do. If that’s how you’re feeling, please know I see you. I appreciate you and I’m sending you peace, comfort and love. ✌🏼🌈✨♥️

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I loved seeing all your friendly faces yesterday. I got to hear your Thanksgiving stories, who’s on your shopping list, why this card is perfect for your aunt and just how creative you think I am. It fills my heart when you all share with me. Thank you. And thanks for investing in my letterpress dream and Albany Park. I’m honored you chose us to support on Small Business Saturday and really every day you shop with us whether in person, online or at events. This small business thang can be real tough busy days like this weekend truly make it all worth it. Thank you.

Next up, Sip & Shop Thursday, November 30th 5-8pm. Fellow business neighbors, will be open too. And for those asking, I ordered more Albany Park prints, hoping they arrive by Thursday. We’ll also have super cute Albany Park ornaments. ♥️

🍁 Happy Thanksgiving! 🍂 I have so much to be thankful for, the list is too long to share. BUT I want you all to know you’re on the gratitude list. Because of you I get to keep creating, printing and sharing. I also get to employee two amazing humans, .abraham (aka mom) and who I’m extremely thankful for too. Thanks for being your wonderful, supportive selves. I hope each of you have full hearts and bellies all season long! 🥧 🦃 🍽️

You guys. Thank you all for reading my memoir yesterday 😉 I can get a little wordy. I appreciate you all taking the time to read my story. I’m so thankful for all the kind comments, text messages and love you sent my way. Sharing tough stuff is really hard for me but your encouragement made it less scary. Thank you. I feel a little lighter not carrying such a big secret. Cheers to another day on this planet! Thanks for the support. ✨

Hi friends! Buckle up, I have a crazy story to share. A year ago today I was diagnosed with DCIS (breast cancer). At the time my GP explained DCIS in general terms and not my specific diagnosis, I was told it’s stage 0 and I would have to get mammograms every 6 months and possibly more biopsies. I felt very relieved and texted my people to let them know we had a breast cancer scare but I’d be ok with monitoring. I went about my day and set up at Show of Hands feeling grateful and like I’d dodged a bullet. At 4:42 pm, as I was waiting for SOH to open, I got a call from my cancer care liaison, which signaled to me this isn’t stage 0. She explained I needed to come in for a 3 hour appointment and meet my Oncologist, Geneticist, Radiation Dr. and Surgeon. What!?! Why!?! These appointments were only available on Fridays and since the following week was Thanksgiving, I would have to wait until the following Friday, the Friday I’d be showing at One of a Kind Show. Again, this was minutes before SOH opened and I was alone and had to act professional like everything was fine, ignore the painful biopsy bruises with every hug and pretend I knew without a doubt I wasn’t dying and trusting it was all a mistake and I really was stage 0 and didn’t have cancer even though I just found out I had 3 new specialist and a Geneticists. We went through the next two weeks hoping all these doctors were just precaution. They weren’t. After multiple weekly appointments, blood tests, an MRI and CT scan, it was apparent this was in fact Breast Cancer and that an amputation (mastectomy) was needed and soon. And even more scary, I wouldn’t be staged until after the pathology, which takes weeks. Needless to say, December was a grueling month and now we added a plastic surgeon to the list of specialists. January was tough too, my surgery was mid month, however, pathology results weren’t expected until February. Mind you, this is all during my busiest time of work, I had shows and a storefront to run and wholesale Valentines to prepare.
