I am sorry I have been MIA but I started a new job and went on a yoga retreat all in the same week! Last week was all about glimmers and boy was I emerged in soooo many 🤍

From having the honor to help an amazing organization create a space that will help young people thrive and grow to being in a space with like minded people to experience yoga retreat. I feel like such a lucky person.

So much gratitude for all that is put in front of me to experience and honoring myself to trust what comes next.

It’s my birthday week! I am super weird during this week. There are usually tears and a little bit of being sad. It’s not because I am afraid to age, I swear! Birthdays can be complicated. This year I am trying to change it up and focus on GLIMMERS instead of triggers. Today’s glimmer was seeing my favorite pair of pants and wearing them!

Next up on our meditation exploration! Metta AKA Loving Kindness Meditation 🤍

Not to be cliche, but in order to love others deeply you must love yourself deeply. That is why in this meditation you start with self love! As you practice notice where you get stuck and where sending the message of loving kindness comes with ease. Be curious without judgement as you practice 🤍

Find a comfortable seat and begin by using your new breath awareness skill (Anapana). As the mind calms you will begin to cultivate images of people. At each section try and stay for 10 breaths.

First off imagine yourself (the person we often neglect to love) and send the following message.

May I be filled with loving kindness.
May I be safe.
May I be well mentally and physically.
May I be at ease and happy.

Second, image of a dear friend (someone who brings an innate smile to your face) and send the following message.

May you be filled with loving kindness.
May you be safe.
May you be well mentally and physically.
May you be at ease and happy.

Third, someone neutral (maybe a stranger that you saw at the grocery store). Send them this message.

May you be filled with loving kindness.
May you be safe.
May you be well mentally and physically.
May you be at ease and happy.

Fourth, someone you have difficulty with (try and see them as a child this can help with sending the message of loving kindness).

May you be filled with loving kindness.
May you be safe.
May you be well mentally and physically.
May you be at ease and happy.

And finally to all beings all over the world.

May you be filled with loving kindness.
May you be safe.
May you be well mentally and physically.
May you be at ease and happy.

When starting a meditation practice the first thing to do is befriend your breath by observing it in a natural and normal state. This comes from the Buddhist tradition and is called Anapana.

I invite you to take a moment today to sit and notice your breath. Notice where it is in the now. No need to fix or change it. Just observe it. Notice the temperature at the tip of your nose as you breathe in and out. Notice the natural movement of the chest and belly as the air moves in and out. If it’s hard to concentrate add a count (Breathe in 1 Breathe out, Breathe in 2 Breathe out, and so on for no more then ten breaths and begin again from 1).

Doing this will not only allow you to become aware of how your breath flows into and out of your body it will also allow you to befriend the here and now.

A few questions to ask yourself after your practice today:

Where did the breath begin and end in your body?
Where did you notice your breath getting stuck?
Could you just observe or did adding the count help?

Let’s start a conversation about meditation. Ask a question below ⬇️ and I will do my best to answer. I think sometimes people get intimidated by the word and what you hear it entails. The practice of mediation can happen anywhere for even 1 minute. It doesn’t have to be seated for 30 minutes in front of an alter with all the bells and whistles. The cool thing about it is that you can make it fit your own style. It’s not a set in stone, right or wrong thing! (At least that’s the way I see it) The only thing that I would say is important is to stay consistent. So commit to 3, 5, 20 minutes and do it everyday for 21 days! (You know it takes 21 days to make something a habit) We are going to go over four different types of meditation this week. They are very simple practices to get you curious about how meditation can be incorporated into your life. So follow along as we learn more.

A tangible way to feel like you’re helping someone who is having a difficult time is to buy a gift. Often times it’s hard to decide what to get. What even goes into a wellness basket? Here is a recent one I made and the guide that went with it. Maybe it will inspire you to create one for someone who is having a tough time. Let’s try and spread some LOVE 💗

Wellness Basket Guide

Journal and Pen: Write out whatever is on my mind. Try not to keep it stuck in your head. It can feel really good to write it out. Give it a try :)

Mandala Coloring Book and Colored Pens: An easy way to meditate and calm the mind is to color. Use the pens and coloring book to get creative. Who knows what can come out of it!

An Original McCabe Clay Mug: This is an original mug handcrafted by an artist Dan McCabe in Beverly. Its made with a whole lot of love.

Organic Peppermint Tea: Peppermint is a very uplifting herb and it tastes great. Making time to set and drink a warm drink that you prepare yourself can be very healing.

Trinket Tray and Quartz Bracelets: Everyone needs a cute trinket tray and the Quartz Bracelets help to promote positivity. EVERYONE needs that!

Abalone shell for Sage and Palo Santo: Burning herbs to bring positivity and wellness has been used for centuries. Light the sage and blow it out and allow the beautiful smoke to cleanse your space. If the sage smells too potent try the palo Santo. Light the wooden stick and enjoy the sweet scent. Use the shell to put out the burning herb.

Crystals and a Copper bowl: Copper (Grounds and helps to manifest) is a great place to store your crystals. The crystals included are Amethyst (Calmness), Black Kyanite (Protection), Clear Quartz (Positivity), and Opalite (Clarity and New Beginnings). Crystals are a nice way to incorporate healing.

It’s September 1st! 3 more months until 2023 is over. So I woke up this morning and decided I am going to make a promise to myself to read, exercise, and not feel guilty to rest every day until the year is up (three days a week is good too 😉)
The book is Unbroken by MaryCatherine McDonald, PhD.
📖
The exercise is a combo of walking, yoga , and 100 wall push ups.
🚶‍♀️
The rest is guilt free tv watching or maybe a nap! I said it A NAP!
😴

This is CC, my daughter, minutes after she was born. She turned 15 a week ago! (Hopefully she won’t kill me fir posting this) I am posting her like this because often times this is how I view her even though she is a teenager. The emotions this person creates in me is overwhelming at times. Parenting is so hard. Teaching her all about all the things. Watching her navigate really hard things while trying to shut my mouth and not give my opinions has been quite difficult. As an adult we have been there done that right? We wish we can take what’s in our brains and zap it in to theirs as a way to protect them and help them to avoid any hurt. Our goal is protection! However we have to let go and let them live, make mistakes, get hurt by friends, and learn how to be in relationships. Ahhh 😱 it’s all so much, but in the end they land on their feet. They learn they grow and thrive!

A really great resource for all things parenting teenage girls is .damour Follow her! You’ll love her, I Promise 😉

A few words from my darling niece 🤍 Shout out to teaching me all things social media!

To the place that helped me grow - thank you. To me, Turkey is not just a store, it is a special sanctuary. This place allowed me to remind my self that I am always doing the best I can. Turkey helped me to be the best version of myself and to be still in an unpredictable time in my life. I will miss the wonderful and healing vibes, the many customers I had the privilege of meeting over the years, and above all working with my amazingly talented aunt, Amy, my crazy experienced mom, Rosemary and my sisters (when they would come jump on for a shift or two 😂).  Turkey will live on through all the perfect gifts people have and through our family always. We can’t wait to see what’s next for our amazing Aunt Amy and Turkey’s legacy 🧡🥹🧿
