Dear Friends and Dear Guests,
Oh, how we have missed you! In February of 2020, we had our “Cloud Five Supper”, an extraordinary 50 person dinner in Chicago. We really wanted to blow it out of the water for that anniversary event, which was about to be the perfect kick off to a packed year. We had so many events planned, an AirBnB, a rental line in the works, a podcast, and even Filigree Suppers “Weekends Away.” And then 2020, well, happened. We pressed the pause button, thought of some classic, Covid-friendly pivots, and eventually re-hit the pause button. Ultimately, we decided to just do the best we could as best friends, going through enough personally and professionally, without the added stress of what to do with our beloved supper club.

Now, as 2 years have passed, we’ve decided to formally close Filigree Suppers. Not because we didn’t love it, or love you, but because the landscape has changed to the point where we aren’t sure that it fits in with our pandemic-emerging lives as individuals.
Will we ever do an event again? Maybe… maybe not? But we do know that Filigree has been such a crazy important project in our lives, and in our friendship. What’s next for us, you ask? Stay tuned!
Cheers!
Brita & Elise

Supper number 11! was a gathering that focused on our love of fall and calligraphy - all inspired by a calligraphy class with Jenna Blazevich of . The event took place in Chicago's Tack Room, a restored equestrian tack room from the turn of the century. Upon arrival, guests gathered around the grand piano where Jenna did some "live calligraphy" in the form of love letters and holiday cards. Foxglove Studio amped up the fall decor with coral ranunculus and dinner plate dahlias, while Dot & Army hand-dyed beautiful, merlot linen napkins. Guests then dined at a single table along a thirty-foot runner hand lettered by Vichcraft.

Our 6th gathering was the , a perfect excuse to get outside and enjoy the onset of warmer weather. We gathered at the Onderdonk House, which is a historic house with a sprawling lawn and garden right in the heart of industrial Ridgewood. We loved the fact that many New Yorkers may not know about this hidden gem, and what better way to celebrate it than with an intimate dinner al fresco?

continues! Our Victorian Supper was a celebration of 19th century design concepts, paired with a menu inspired by the time. We partnered with The Wi******er in Chicago for an incredible evening of champagne, duck, and design. Instead of a simple menu, guests received a comprehensive booklet that informed them of dining traditions from that period so they could follow along with the meaning behind each dish. It was one part dinner, one part history lesson, and a lovely evening of new friendships and conversation.

Supper no. 2! March 2015. 🌱🦌 was held at Isa Restaurant in Brooklyn. The concept focused on the slowly blossoming approach of spring. Acclaimed chef Ginger Pierce designed a menu of fresh local ingredients to celebrate the thawing winter.

Ok! We’re gonna go for here because 1. We miss you and 2. We miss setting the table. Starting with our verrrrry first in 2015! Dinner at Dusk was the pilot dinner for Filigree Suppers. It was months in the making, and worth every minute. Despite the fact that our dinner took place during Chicago's fifth largest blizzard, everyone made it out to a then brand new, Photo

This past week has been inspiring, uprooting and important. We firmly support and are so hopeful for the future, as we watch this movement continue to grow and gain momentum. As individuals, we have been participating in our own ways, Brita, currently in Florida, and Elise in Chicago.

Although our events-based company looks quite different in the time of Covid, our goal always has, and always will be, to hold up and work with artisans. We believe this helps to lessen the grip of the corporate giants, and focuses our collective attention to our communities.

As we pivot to make adjustments from a business point of view, we remain committed to working with BIPOC led companies and individuals. We know that simply being an ally is no longer enough. We need to advocate and further the conversation of what it looks like to be anti-racist. We need to speak with our dollar and as much as possible.

Since we are limited in our ability to have these important conversations around the dinner table, we want to open up this dialogue on our social channels. We intend to share ways to get involved within your communities so that the activism we have witnessed and taken part in this week can continue to evolve from a movement to a revolution. We welcome feedback and your thoughts on causes that will help support this initiative. Foot on the gas! Photo:
