To Whom It May Concern:
My name is David Jones, Owner of DJ's Bike Doctor in Hyde Park. After almost 40 years of working in the bike business I have decided to retire and move to a better climate.
The store has a long history in Hyde Park. It used to be Art's Cycle which is where I got my start in the bike business and became a Master Mechanic. (I hold the shop record for changing a tire in less than 60 seconds!) After working my way up at Art's for over 25 years, I took over from the owner when he retired. I opened my own store, DJ's Bike Doctor, and have been in business for the last 8 years or so.
Now it's my turn, but I don't have anyone that I can hand it off to so I am selling the business. The location in Hyde Park makes the business particularly appealing. It is close to the University of Chicago and Hyde Park residents have a long, well-known history of using bikes for transportation, as well as pleasure riding. It is immediately adjacent to the lakefront which has one of the best bike paths in the country. Although I'm not selling the name "DJ's Bike Doctor" the rest of the business is for sale and includes all remaining inventory, enough tools and fixtures to get started, telephone number, receipts from bike purchases, catalogs and business contacts, etc.
The reason I am writing you today is to inquire if you or anyone you know would like to keep the Hyde Park tradition of having a good neighborhood bike shop where you can get expert bicycle repair. There are small shops and a teaching group in the area, but they don't do the more extensive work: frame straightening, wheel building, 3-speed hub overhaul, etc. that we do here.
If you would like to contact me, please call the shop at 773-955-4400 or come to the shop during regular business hours in the next two weeks.
Sincerely,
DJ's Bike Doctor
