I'd like to recognize (and thank) my first wholesale customer: Mart News Co., located on the 2nd Floor at The Merchandise Mart in Chicago, IL. In January of 2020, the lovely folks at Mart News agreed to sell some of my designs in their wonderful shop. I was over the moon! 3 years and a pandemic later, they're still standing and my cards are still selling! Founded in 1967, by Mr. Gregory Vavloukis, a.k.a., The Mayor of The Mart (see details in photo), this 55-year old establishment is iconic -- and I couldn't be more honored, proud or delighted to work with Gregory's daughter, Christy and her husband, John! Please stop by Mart News next time you're near The Mart. Hayes Illustrated LLC is an online 24/7 greeting card shop -- there's no bricks and mortar location. Today, a customer with a Houston-based phone exchange called. He'd found us through my Google Business Profile and he was desperate to purchase two of my most popular cards, (shown in the photos) as sympathy cards for a beloved friend who'd lost a parent. I was flattered -- but the fact remains that I'm an online card shop and he was in Houston -- or so I thought. Long story short, I soon understood that he was calling from Rogers Park (a Chicago neighborhood a scant mile south of my home. I was incredibly touched that he insisted on sending one of my designs for such an important card-giving occasion. I told him if he bought the cards online, I'd be happy to meet him in a public place, at an agreed-upon time, to deliver them. His order came through a minute later and 30 minutes later, at 3 pm today, I hand-delivered his order. Not going to lie... I was bracing myself in case it was a scam -- or worse -- but it all worked out perfectly. This gentleman could not have been kinder or more polite. I'm still amazed, humbled and gratified at the lengths that somebody went to in order to send one of my greeting card designs. Plus, this was my first sale to somebody who wasn't a friend, family member, colleague or acquaintance --(so that's kind of a big deal, too!!). I'm still a bit stunned by it all but have to admit -- this is what makes it all worthwhile. My gratitude bucket has been filled to overflowing and I will cherish this memory for a long, long time! Thanks for reading my long, long post!! 😉 😍
