Coming out of my social media hibernation to remind folks this Sunday, Sept 28th is Chicago Pagan Pride. This year like last is being held at Riis Park. Come check it out, say hi, and check out the work of Jackal Moon Design from my dear friend and Pagan author (perfect holiday gift buying opportunity!) as well as running the workshop "Gender Begore Abraham" at 2:30

It's really hard to focus on gratitude when there are large looming forces hellbent on destroying even the very basic human needs of anyone that suits their purpose.

But its a bit easier when you take in moment by moment.

It's been insanely cool in weather in Chicaho this year. That's stressful for many pollinators and migratory animals, certainly for many beekeepers. No idea how our farmers are handling things.

But for myself it's meant amazing yields on cool weather crops from my community garden plots I don't usually get (i didn't grow those mushrooms).

I'm grateful that I currently able to live in a place I can sink my hands into soil, to marvel at how the synergy of sun, rain, ground, and seed wakens these complex and enduring plant beings, and to be able to commune with such a lifelife from closely, intimately.

Hail to the sun, its all its magnificence. Hail to the many deities and spirits tied to this guiding orb both life giver and destroyer.

It's been really hard to make any type of post that hasn't just been reposting other folks who are better spoken and more informed than myself about the escalating issues in here in the U.S.

But I've been feeling I need to put in the effort to share hope and joy, and the thing that finally pushed me to start that step was finishing Robin Wall Kimmerer's latest book The Serviceberry. It's a short read, but dense, and succulent in it's writing (as expected of a botanist and who had also I believs studied poetry).

Kimmerer's work is always a dive through the eyes of someone as deeply informed as filled with wonder and gratitude. And while I can't seem to muster much of that for myself currently, it is a reprieve to spend some time in the words of someone who does.

For Chicago locals, I bought my copy in Albany Park right off the Kedzie brown line, a small business focusing on AANHPI voices and beyond.

Another great option for folks who shop online is an online shop which connects online readers to independent bookshops (of your choice or towards all participating stores) giving one access to a wide range of book options while supporting bookshops.

And ofcourse there is also one's local library and apps like Libby for audiobook folks.

Hope folks check out this gem.
