🗣️Amigos, it’s that time of year again! We don’t have sales often, but we need to make room for new inventory. So from August 7th-9th (next weekend) we have select books for all ages marked down between 25-50% off. Some of the sale books are available online, but not all.

🎉🥳 ¡No podemos creer que ya pasaron cinco años desde que fundamos Los Amigos Books! 🤯

Nuestra librería nació del sueño de entrar en un lugar donde los libros reflejaran nuestra lengua y cultura y que fueran la prioridad y no algo secundario.

Sabíamos que estos recursos iban a ser necesarios para poder criar a nuestro hijo a que sea bilingüe. Muchas familias tienen este mismo sueño y necesidad. Entonces, como no encontrábamos un lugar así, decidimos crearlo, no solo para nuestra familia, pero para todas las familias en el área de Chicago y más allá. Cinco años y 11,382 pedidos después, ¡todavía estamos aquí gracias a todos ustedes!

“Rep. Brandon Gill repeatedly pressed the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History director on whether selling “Latina Power” merchandise was appropriate. The exchange came during a House subcommittee hearing examining allegations that the Smithsonian presents a politicized view of U.S. history. The hearing followed a July 4 White House report criticizing the museum’s exhibits and programming.”

🎉📚 Today we celebrate by reading books from our Diverse American Voices Collection which consists of books by diverse authors and illustrators that inform us of the complete and true American history and experience that includes ALL of us.

📘 Specifically we’d like to spotlight We the People Is All the People, which is a collaboration with author Howard W. Reeves and Mexican-American illustrator Duncan Tonatiuh. Duncan Tonatiuh

Summary: Who are the “we the people” mentioned in the preamble to the U.S. Constitution? They are our neighbors next door, down the street, or across the country. They live in different places, worship in different ways, come from different backgrounds and histories. They struggle, achieve, and overcome. They are you, and me, and us. Because, as we strive to create a more perfect union, “we” should mean “all.”

We love that this book embodies the spirit of the entire Diverse American Voices Collection in that it strives to include experiences and histories of ALL American people. Black, Latine, Asian, and Indigenous history IS U.S. History!
