Most of the moulding we make is pretty boring - a variation of a rectangle with a rabbet cut out of it. Once in a while we get more "traditional" orders. Here's "one" we're working on now.

In this iteration, they will ALL be made from Walnut.

It's so nice to have customers who want what they want, AND can afford to pay for it, and not even complain about it :)

We have a winner! Actually, NINE of them!!

Some of you may remember that back in late Fall we put out a request for photos of framed art using our mouldings, since we almost never see the finished product and wanted to build up our stock image library. The response was almost overwhelming, with over 300 submissions! We’ve selected 9 of our favorites which you can see here. These were chosen because we felt they represent a wide variety of content, context or original application of our moulding. If you are one of those who sent in one, or several, photos but you don’t see it here, please know that it was a struggle to pick favorites, and ALL photos were and are greatly appreciated. You may see yours in a forthcoming post or email.

Big Stuff! This is the largest of three sizes of moulding in hard maple designed to have dibond panels mounted to the face. The edges will be painted and the dibond goes right to the edge, creating a seamless corner. This one is 2-1/2 x 2-3/8. It takes some big, heavy, boards - many of them weigh as much as 150 pounds a piece; a 2-person job to move them.

Frames seem to be getting larger and larger. This one is a record for us, at 210-1/2 x 80-1/2 ID. We also made a stretcher for the art going in it that was 209-1/2 x 79-1/2.

Commercially available lumber processed in the USA is limited to 16' or 192". We did eventually find some 20' (240") lumber from one supplier. While Maple would have been preferred we had to settle for Poplar (a/k/a Tulip, NOT "popple").

It’s been a great year. And every day without an accident makes it even better! We’ve got a great crew.
