Great Smoky Mountains National Park Fishing Report
Fishing throughout the park remains very good, especially in the higher elevation streams where water temperatures are ideal and trout are actively feeding throughout much of the day.
Brook Trout
Brook trout fishing continues to be excellent in the headwater streams. Anglers willing to hike into the backcountry are finding aggressive fish willing to rise to dry flies, particularly during the afternoon hours.
Rainbow & Brown Trout
Mid and lower elevation streams are producing solid numbers of rainbow and brown trout. Early mornings and late evenings have been especially productive, though overcast conditions can extend the dry fly bite well into the afternoon.

Best Bets
Higher elevation streams continue to provide the most consistent action, especially during the warmest parts of the day. Brook trout streams are fishing exceptionally well, and anglers are reporting quality mixed-bag days featuring brook, rainbow, and brown trout.
Afternoon thunderstorms are common this time of year, so keep an eye on changing weather conditions and be cautious around rapidly rising water levels.
If you’re heading to the park this week, make sure you have a few Yellow Sally patterns and Green We**ies in your box. Trout are actively feeding on the surface, and dry-dropper rigs continue to be one of the most productive techniques.
