Happy Saturday! π What are you reading this week?
If you need a recommendation, I LOVED How to Survive Camping: The Man With No Shadow, a silly and spooky haunted campground tale by Bonnie Quinn.
Based on the reddit thread No Sleep, this book is perfect for anyone who likes scary stories around campfires, Scooby-Doo vibes, and lots of mayhem. And yes...it would be the perfect book to take camping.
Meet Kate, a jaded campground manager who is really tired of people making stupid decisions while interacting with the inhuman entities that reside in her campground. Especially when she hand wrote a list of very helpful rules for folks.
The Old land that her campground sits on has belonged to Kate's family for generations, making it the perfect place for ghost story monsters and campfire horror stories to make it their home. It's up to Kate to keep her campers and the nearby townspeople safe (no matter how ungrateful they are), especially with something dark and dangerous stirring in the woods...
I loved this silly spooky read. Give me horror and a side of laughter any day of the week, and I'm extra sold when the narrator is grumpier than most of the monsters.
I loved how many different familiar scary stories, myths, and folktales from my childhood made an appearance (special shout out to the Yule Cat battle, which was ABSOLUTELY one of my favorite parts)!
This book is sassy, hilarious, and had a surprising amount of bloodshed...but not usually from the monsters themselves.
