This is an excellent article about cutting forage stands too low. All mowers should be set to leave a minimum of 4 inches of stubble.

There are many reasons to avoid cutting low when mowing hay, but money is the main one.

Sorghum-sudangrass (sudex) is a great option to produce forage in dry years. This Cattleman's Choice Sudex is being harvested 28 days after planting in northeastern Massachusetts, it grows quickly with adequate fertility and correct seeding methods.

N-take liquid soybean inoculant makes a difference, the right side deep green soybeans were inoculated at planting the left side with yellow plants wasn't. Same variety.

Even with a cold month of relentless rain Corral Oats are off to a great start. Early planted oats are best but if you have not gotten them planted yet don't worry late May planted oats can still yield very well.
