Follow us on Twitter The Shop: For over thirty-five years, Blue Wheel Bicycles has been the perfect fit for Charlottesville’s bike community. In 1972, Blue Wheel opened in UVA’s Corner District. For 33 years, we sold, fixed and chatted about bikes from a little blue building at the end of Elliewood Avenue. In January of 2006, we moved to the historic Frank Ix Building in Downtown C

harlottesville. For us, the Ix Building was the perfect fit, reflecting Charlottesville’s history and boldly forging its future. With over three decades spent on the Corner, we’re excited about spending our next thirty years Downtown. The Staff
Blue Wheel owners Roger Friend and Scott Paisley have been riding bikes around Charlottesville since the late 70s. While they haven’t ridden every single road and trail in Central Virginia, they’ve come pretty close. And they definitely know what you need to ride comfortably and safely here.

This Sunday 3/30 at 10am we’ll be pre-riding a few stages! Meet at the Blue Ridge School gravel lot across from campus on Bacon Hollow Rd. Current plan is to do stages 1, 2, and 5. Rain cancels.

Please make sure you’ve signed the online waiver on the school’s website prior to riding.

If you haven’t already, sign up for the race or to volunteer! It’s truly one of the great community events in our area. Race day is Sunday, May 4.

Back for its Junior year, the popular Blue Wheel Winter Gravel Series is making its debut on November 10th. Join us for Scott’s classic Wilderness Tertiary FireRoad (WTF) ride! Please note that this year— unlike last year for our 50th anniversary— this ride is unsupported. This is a spectacular ride, but involves 100 feet (+/-) per mile of climbing so is significantly above average for difficulty. Please know/download the route and bring enough food and water for the entire ride. It is best to arrange a group of friends to stay with for the duration—this is a joy ride! We’ll be starting at Fleetwood Community Center. The 75 mile ride will start at 9am, the 50 mile ride will start at 10am and the 25 mile ride will start at 11am so we all have a better chance of finishing up around the same time for a post-ride hangout.
