Hey Facebook friends! A local church is using one of our displays pictured below for their lending library for children’s books… We have three more of these fixtures we would love to rehome - FREE to anyone who can take them away! There’s lots of storage space underneath and they really are a practical way to display books face out. You could pick up on Saturday or by appointment on Sunday or Monday.

Extra savings Friday and Saturday!
We have sold A LOT these last two weeks -
thank you to all who have come in!
It's been so wonderful to see you
and get a chance to say good-bye!
There have been lots of smiles and hugs
(and a few tears).
But - we still have some books we would love to re-home! All used books will be $2.00 each!
And a generous selection of new books will be 75% off!

A message for our loyal customers
You are reading this email because you are
a great friend to The Sycamore Tree.
As such, you deserve to hear first:
we have discerned it is time to close the doors of our brick-and-mortar shop.
We hope to vacate our space at 194 Zan Road by April 30, 2022.
We may continue to provide our niche services like imprinting and personalized Crane stationery and invitations - and maybe others!
If so, we would "re-launch" that part of our business sometime this summer...
stay tuned!
This decision has been a difficult one, but, for many reasons,
we know it is time to move on.
We are so glad we spent these 9+ years getting to know you,
but now we are ready to pursue other interests.
We have paid for and own everything in the store.
So, if you think you could use something we have at some point in the future,
please consider buying it now!
One last thing...
if you think you might like to operate
a shop like this one,
PLEASE REACH OUT!
We would welcome exploring the possibility of another owner carrying on the ecumenical, big tent, open-minded tradition of The Sycamore Tree!
It's been a great adventure!
Thank you for sharing it with us!

January Update!
Our biggest news is...
The Sycamore Tree will stay open!
Our time of discernment made it clear that the shop is still a worthwhile endeavor! Yay!
Thank you all for shopping at The Sycamore Tree and doing your part to make the store viable.
The discernment process helped us look at the store from a bird's eye view. In doing so, we realized that our open hours should pretty much follow the liturgical calendar since your shopping tends to reflect the seasons of the Christian Year.
The green portions of the calendar are called Ordinary Time. This year we will have abbreviated hours during some of Ordinary Time and be open regular hours during the other seasons of the year.
Winter Hours
Epiphany through Ash Wednesday
Tuesday through Saturday
11:00 to 4:00
During this season of Ordinary Time, we will be restocking and expanding the shop and we ask you to please continue to shop with us.
We still have to pay rent during Ordinary Time. ;-)
We look forward to seeing you!
We will return to our 10:00 to 5:30 schedule on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

November Update!
Stop by now through Thanksgiving and bring your friends and family!
This week, we'll be open today through Saturday.
Next week, we'll be open Tuesday through Friday, only.
(We are sorry for the inconvenience some Saturdays this Fall may have caused you. Our daughter is a senior at JMU and is in the marching band. This is her last year, and we lost the 2020 season due to Covid, so we just have wanted to enjoy these last opportunities. Thank you for understanding!)
Thanksgiving week we will be open
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
As we head into these next 6 weeks leading up to Christmas, we do want to share a little true story with you...
A longtime customer who lives in Charlottesville visited yesterday. She was looking for a particular item that she had not been able to find online. She had purchased volume 1 of this item online, but when she ordered volume 2 in the same way, the envelope arrived empty. She said it was a "praise moment" that we had it. She was surprised that it cost only $13.99 and said it was twice that online. When it was time to pay, she pulled out a gift certificate that someone had purchased for her on 12/24/20. It was for $35. Since she still had $20 left on it, she shopped around for something else because she said she wouldn't make it back to the shop before Christmas.
Does Charlottesville need a brick and mortar shop like ours? Or has Covid completely changed our shopping habits? We are still discerning.
Nonetheless, this Thanksgiving we will remember all of you around our table because we are so thankful for YOU and that The Sycamore Tree made it possible for us to be able to call so many of you FRIENDS!
We hope you have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!
love,
Richard and Maria
ps, we hope to see you before Christmas!

October Update from The Sycamore Tree
Thanks again for your response to our August email!
August and September were awesome! After our early August email, you came in, you told your friends, you thought outside the box, you let us know you want a store like The Sycamore Tree in your community.
However, we want to be transparent with you through our time of discernment so we need to let you know that October has been a very dry month. Yes, we have had some individual big purchases but we consistently have had about five customers per day. We don't say this to make you feel guilty! Honestly, you've been amazing! But what's happened in October tells us that perhaps staying busy year-round is not sustainable.
All Saints' Day is November 1st!
All Saints' Day is a Western Christian tradition, celebrated by the Roman Catholic Church, the Methodist Church, the Episcopal Church, and more. It is a day to show honor and reverence to saints both canonized and unknown, and in some faiths also to give thanks to those who have guided others to Christ, like a friend or relative.
Come in and pick up a book or toy about a great Christian to share with the little people in your lives!
We will be closed on Saturday, October 30th, for a family commitment so, if you need to shop on a Saturday, make sure you come in tomorrow, Saturday, October 23rd!
Check out the pics below to see just a few of the new products we've added!

We are opening back up! We've made some changes due to COVID-19. Starting Friday, May 15... We'll be open 11:00 to 3:00 (and by appointment if necessary!) Tuesday through Saturday. All of us will wear masks in the store and use hand sanitizer as we enter. As you are browsing, please limit yourself to touching items you are considering buying. We are unable to wipe down the majority of our products! We will allow four customers (including children) in the store at one time. One child per adult, please! Thank you so much for sticking with us. Can't wait to see you!

Hey! The Governor says it’s ok to pick up books to encourage you during this difficult time. Let us know if we can help you out.
