Friends —
We all think a lot about how to raise kind and resilient kids. My husband and I believe in showing up and working hard. We constantly remind our kids that making mistakes isn’t just okay, it’s necessary. What truly matters is that they tried.
Just a few weeks ago, my daughter’s team for a science project faced some not so desirable results. But they decided to scrap it and do something else. And now they are headed to the state finals in April. Not because the project achieved the “best” or “perfect” results — but because they pivoted and learned from their failed attempts. I love that her teachers celebrate mistakes in a safe space.
So I will try to embrace all of these lessons, which are very true, but still very hard to FEEL deep down, when Brigid & Bess closes on May 15.
From day one, I thought that Charlottesville could use a boutique with fun, vibrant, snarky, cutting edge gifts. And you all proved me right — you supported my small business with your dollars, smiles, compliments and laughter. I’ll always be grateful for this community.
But the shop is no longer sustainable. It needs a lot of attention that I can’t always give.
People ask what I’ll do next and the truth is I don’t know. Currently looking for a new rewarding, flexible, creative, impactful unicorn career. I’m open to any ideas and
look forward to the next chapter.
In the meantime, here are the details:
- Starting today, all items that are curated for Brigid & Bess are 30% off and the discount will increase by 10% every week or so. If you’ve always dreamed of being one of those super prepared women who has a closet/drawer of gifts at the ready - maybe this is a sign.
- We’ll continue to be stocked with the Shop Made in VA section at full price until we close, featuring amazing works by Virginia artisans across the commonwealth.
- Morgan from KesCollections still has her stunning rugs in the shop for you to admire (and buy).
- Make sure you use any Brigid & Bess gift cards either in the store or online before mid-May. The discount is also live at brigidandbess.com (http://www.brigidandbess.com) .
Thanks again for all of your support and as always, happy shopping,
LD
P.S. Currently reading Sirens & Muses by Antonia Angress and These Impossible Things by Salma El-Wardany. Though I just bought Tana French’s latest, The Hunter, and it’s calling my name.
