Born Robert Peapo Bryson, he began singing professionally at just 14 years old with regional acts and became a legendary two-time Grammy Award-winning R&B singer and songwriter known as the "Voice of Love."
Celebrated for his velvety tenor voice, Bryson was a master of the soul ballad and became globally recognized for anchoring some of Disney’s most iconic, Oscar-winning animated movie themes during the 1990s.
Across a career spanning over 50 years, Bryson released more than 20 albums and successfully bridged the worlds of classic soul, adult contemporary, and mainstream pop. He earned a stellar reputation as a premier duet partner alongside several of the music industry's greatest female vocalists.
His most enduring musical landmarks include:"Beauty and the Beast" (1991): A platinum-selling duet with Celine Dion for the Disney animated film of the same name. The song won Bryson his first Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal."
A Whole New World" (1992): Recorded with Regina Belle for Disney's Aladdin. The track famously rocketed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making history as the first song from an animated feature film to top the chart. It earned Bryson his second Grammy Award.
"Tonight, I Celebrate My Love" (1983): A timeless, gold-certified romantic ballad recorded with Roberta Flack.
He scored massive solo hits with the adult contemporary chart-topper "If Ever You're in My Arms Again" (1984) and the R&B No. 1 classic "Can You Stop the Rain" (1991).
