I'm sure this won't stop folks that still fall for the "business interests in the 80's started calling it uptown", but archives don't lie! Plus my grandparents who grew up near what is now Park Road Shopping Center said everyone called it "uptown" because back then when they walked or biked the elevation walking "up" was more evident. Calling our center of town "uptown" has precedent dating back to the late 1800's

Archives illuminate how long we’ve argued over the perennial question

Junteeth at Camp North End

Junteeth at Camp North End

A couple years ago they held the Durag Festival on a Friday night when we were open. It was so much fun! Great music and amazing outfits. If you think a durag is limited to the simple ones that we've likely seen our whole lives, that's not what this festival is about! There were durags that were essentially trains as in wedding dress trains, long ornate ones that reminded us of Egyptian headdresses, so much more so much creativity.
We were going to be more involved last year but the pandemic hit and it was cancelled, but it's back on this year AND it's Junteenth! Stop by Camp North End for this - you'll be glad you did!
Durag Fest June 19th starting at noon
