I've not done as much artwork for cards this year as I had planned. I've thankfully had quite a few commissions, which I love working on. But I do have a new card almost ready & wanted to share a sneak peak. It's 99% done - just needs a few tweaks before it's printed as cards.
This painting was quite a challenge but such fun!
There is always a story behind everything I do and this piece is no exception.
I recently found a roll of 35mm film I had taken at least 15 years ago that was never developed. I had no idea what was on it. I was so excited to find that the photos were of our first visit to one of our favorite restaurants at Readyville Mill, just outside of Murfreesboro. While waiting on our table, we walked through the old Mill and I took the lost roll of pictures. I couldn't believe how perfect this one photo was. My husband suggested it needed to be framed. I decided it needed to be painted! The only thing I changed was the addition of Macy, our cat.
And so, this is a room inside the Readyville Mill in beautiful Readyville, Tn. It was originally built in 1812 but burned down during the Civil War. It was rebuilt in 1870 but unfortunately, was destroyed by an EF-2 tornado on April 1, 2023. Fortunately, no lives were lost but the beautiful town did lose many structures - and history. So I'm grateful for the lost pictures, the memories and the inspiration.
The cards will soon be available at Creekside Trading in Columbia and at Shimai Gallery at The Loveless Cafe.
