My neighbors are probably wondering what im doing in the shop at 1 am. “I’m setting up scale construction zones, don’t judge me!”

After building the 1/10th scale message board trailer, I figured i needed some traffic cones or barrels to go with it. One thing lead to another and i ended up adding lights and reflective tape to them.

I was able to get the single wall dimensions and printing on the first try with these, so without the light they will stack on top of each other like the real units.

They are scaled down to exactly 1/10th scale which unfortunately puts them on the smaller side to mainstream RC products, but they fit well with the trailer and i’m pleased nonetheless.

The trailer mounted message board.

This is something i have wanted to see scaled down for years, i finally just decided (impulsively) to build one.

I started with a general idea for size and ordered P2, P4, and P5 pitch led matrix to start. I ended up going with the P4 and paired it to an ESP32 to control it.

The reason i went with an ESP32 is it had built in WIFI. In the past this has been irrelevant to me, but for this project it was crucial. What it allowed me to do was program it to have its own website based on the board for the patterns. This means you connect your device (my phone worked best) to the DOT board wifi and go to the ip website where there are seven presets, a custom message generator, day and night modes, and a screen off prompt.

For power i wanted two options, an XT60 connection for regular lipos, and a 5.5mm plug for a power adapter.

I really tried to prioritize (or at least balance) ease of printing, scale realism, and stability for this project. Also keeping the visible wiring to a minimum, and making it as simple to operate as i could even with all of the functions.

F250 Tremor wheels.

I saw these wheels on a truck in town and wanted to give them a shot on the 2023 F250 i am working on. I also had a set of Aliexpress 1.9” “BECoodrich” “Mud-Terrdins” tires i thought would work well with a scale 18” wheel.

In total i tried three filaments before i settled on PETG-CF for the final wheel. It sanded easy on my makeshift drill lathe and ended up pretty smooth for being printed at a 45 degree angle.

I will still end up going with the steel wheel design for this rig, but it was a fun project.

The new owner of the SCX6 F250 sent me some photos this evening with his real OBS. Love to see this!

Also, someone a while back mentioned i should have changed the badging to an F350 because of the straight axle and i can’t unsee that.

Tip toeing along with this project, i went ahead and ordered a rear axle, motor cover, and an RC4WD R4 transmission to go with the shoptruck chassis.

It seems like the motor cover is based on a 350 Chevy motor? Does anyone have any insight into that?

I am still trying to decide what direction to go with this build, but i think it would be neat to replicate a 390ci that would have been an option for this gen truck.

The other thing that i would live to replicate would be the TTB front end, but that will require a ton of R&D to make it functional and stock looking, so we’ll see how that goes.

The SCX6 F250 was delivered today. Big thanks to Justin for meeting me to pick it up, i hope you enjoy it as much as i enjoyed building it!

It is always bittersweet to watch a build leave, but i am confident this one ended up in good hands.
