Customer came in today with a motor that would not steer. Most of the time I can hear clicking inside the steering box. This usually tells me that there is voltage going to the motor in the box. I always measure the voltage from the control board going into the steering box as part of my diagnosis. In this case there was no measurable voltage from the control board so replacement of the board and steering box are required. I tested the box with a volt meter and it was definitely out of spec. This box would continue to take out control boards if used again. I decided to open the box because it sounded so bad. This is what I found.

A little help filming from Chris Verburg. Looks like a bit of water got into the lower unit after the customer hit something. Although cleaning the lower unit is possible, replacement of the lower unit and shaft assembly will likely be necessary.

*Attention Rhodan owners*
Most of the time I find a good bit of water accumulating in the head of the Rhodan motors. It would not be a bad idea to check under this cover occasionally or after a long day on the water. I have seen a couple people drill a small weep hole in the under side of the cover. This way there is somewhere for the water to go when the motor is in the stowed portion.
