What Is an Informational Powwow — and Why MMIW Awareness Is at the Center.

This is an informational powwow focusing on the Missing Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) crisis East of the Mississippi. Our gathering blends the heart of our traditions with the power of community education. You’ll still feel the drum, the songs, the movement, and the sense of belonging that powwows create — but you’ll also find organizations, advocates, and resource tables offering support in areas like recovery, health, safety, legal rights, cultural identity, and more.

A core purpose of this powwow is raising awareness about the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) crisis, which deeply impacts Tribal Nations and communities throughout the Eastern Woodlands. Indigenous women, girls, and Two‑Spirit relatives face violence at rates far higher than the national average, yet their cases are too often ignored or left unresolved. This crisis is not just statistics — it is families, communities, and nations carrying grief, fighting for justice, and demanding visibility.

By centering MMIW at this gathering, we create a space where culture becomes advocacy. We honor those taken, uplift those still searching for answers, and support those living with the impact of violence and systemic neglect. Awareness must be paired with action, and this powwow connects our community with real resources, safety information, and healing supports.

Join us Sunday, February 22, 2026, at The Courage Center, 860 Park Road, Lexington, SC 29072 as we come together to learn, remember, celebrate, and strengthen our circle.

Yesterday was our last powwow of the year. We ended up going from 7 to 10 powwows. It has been our most successful year yet. Thank you to all the tribes who had us out. We’ve grown so much over the past year. I’m so happy to get out more and spread the culture throughout the state. Thank you all for the support.
