Trace minerals are essential for immunity, reproduction, enzyme activity and tissue development in ruminants. For this reason, many nutrition programs already include organic trace minerals (OTMs) to improve mineral availability and reduce the impact of dietary antagonisms.

But here is an important question for nutritionists and feed formulators: “Are you getting the full biological return from the organic minerals you feed?”
Not all OTMs behave the same in the animal. Differences in chemical structure, stability and mineral concentration can influence how efficiently minerals are absorbed, retained and ultimately used by the animal.

In modern ruminant nutrition, the objective is not simply to increase mineral supplementation, the objective is to maximize the biological efficiency of the mineral program. Because the real question is not whether OTMs are in the diet. The real question is: Are OTMs delivering their full biological value in the animal?
