All the hearts for American Heart Month!

Did you know, "About half of all Americans (47%) have at least 1 of 3 key risk factors for heart disease: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking."

A quick little story when I was nine years old, I lost my dad to a heart attack while we were camping in Sedona. What didn't help was he was stressed out, a smoker, had high blood pressure and was overweight. I believe there is always something to learn, and from that day on, with my mom's encouragement, I have made sure to see my doctor regularly for testing to ensure I am on the right track to living a long healthy life.

Another story Bobby, my oldest son, was born with a heart defect. He has Aortic Valve Stenosis, and his heart defect can be hereditary in men. I don't know if it was a fluke or came down the good ole family history line. Bobby's learning the importance of having a healthy heart through yearly checkups and sometimes more often. He's learning to listen to his body and take action on how he feels.

Some factors will always be out of your control, but what you can control, you should!
